Piston stop precaution?
I plan to use a piston stop to find TDC this weekend on my Explorer motor. Is it possible to contact a valve when it is installed in the cylinder? Any advice or precautions?

are you talking about a sparkplug stop?
or are the heads off.
if the heads are off its easy then mark the balancer, a dial indicator is best
or depth gauge

the ones that bolt to the block suck, if you are too far in on any stop it will marr the piston.

i have used a mechanics screw-driver thru the plug port just holding it lightly
and watching the valves on #1 this will get you close

It is screwed into the spark plug hole.
