Engine Tick In an '83 5.0 HO
We recorded the noise coming from our '83 Mustang. This recording runs 34secs and has the engine revving from 1100 to 2200 RPMs.

\We bought the car and put less then 300 miles when the noise started. The noise started w/o warning.

My hope is that the experts here can listen and diagnos the issue. Curious to know if its on top or down on the crank.

sounds like a header leak or loose spark plug. That said, engine noises don't typically record well, so who knows. Beyond that, if it was mine, I'd pull the valvecovers for a look (could be a loose/broken rocker). How's the oil pressure...any changes there?

It sure sounds like it's on the top; i.e. rocker noise. I rarely disagree with Wade but I'm not thinking header leak because it doesn't seem to change at all whether the engine is increasing RPM or coasting down.
