My brother has a 65 Mustang with a factory 6cyl and auto trans. This car is a basket case and has been media blasted and all necessary body work and is ready to be reassembled. I would like to purchase car and put a 4.6L with 5spd. How much trouble is this going to be, is it worth the effort? I can get the car for $2000.00. Would like to make a daily driver. TIA for any advice

probably the easiest way to do it is find a wrecked latemodel gt for a donor. You will need all of the wiring and sensors, computer, etc.

Don't think a 4.6 would fit. FE's won't.
Could be wrong?? 67-up will take big block, but not pre 67.

Expect to convert the engine compartment over to the Mustang II suspension and remove the shock towers and current inner fender panels at the very least.

It will fit. After: you make engine and trans mounts, crossmember, headers and pipes, lots of wiring, misc brackets, convert clutch linkage to new trans if rynning a manual, shock tower brace, cooling lines, fuel system, and for safety update brakes.

Or... bolt in a 5.0 on carb wire up efi.

oh, and modify the firewall and shifter location for the modular motor. But it can be done. Been there.

Well, after looking over some old notes...
Memory not what it once was. You WILL have to modify or REMOVE factory shock towers. I know that we did not add mustang II style suspension. I will look for pics and notes/measurements.

At the SEMA show, 2003 there was a 65 fastback with a 5.0 cammer. I think that there was some surgery on the shock towers. It also had webers. Maybe someone else can remember more details about it.

I guess I need to make the decision if I want to take on a big project like this or not. That 5.0l cammer would be sweet but big $$$$. Oh well more pondering to do. Thanks for all the advice.
