I'm planning on changing the heads on my 1989 302 that has been freshened with new crank, bearings, rings, and stock forged pistons, with a e-303 cam, i plan on using edelbrock 60379 heads with 190 int 160 ex valves, my question is do i need to use roller rockers or will my stock rockers work, also will i need different pushrods, would 1.7 rockers make a difference, any input would help, i'm not even sure im using the right gaskets, fpp 1011-2 ?

I used edelbrock heads...I think they are the same ones, about $1100 from fortes.
Great heads, real easy installation. I used the stock pushrods and rockers.
I was going to do Roller rockers but was put off by cost and the fact that I had heard of the roller rockers breaking.
The heads look great and it runs well. I am yet to get on an open road as the car is unregistered and we are buried in snow.
Roller rockers will give you bragging rights and a little more Hp, but with these heads I didn't think I needed more.

I would go with a better cam than the E. I would also really think about the RPM heads. You will need to change rockers. You can get the 1.90 valve head in pedastal mount but you would be better off with stud mount rockers. Stock push rods will be fine.

Gordon,

Can you give some feedback on the E cam? I plan to use M-6007-XE3M crate from FRPP which comes with the E cam. I want midrange tourque for slalom and smaller road course tracks.

Gordon,

Thanks for the heads up on the heads, i don't need to pass any smog laws so these will work great and they cost less !!

As far as the rockers go can you point me in the right direction, i will be using the car for street driving only, i rarely turn the motor past 5500 rpm, and as far as the cam goes i don't want to tear that far into the motor this winter because next winter i will probably put in a stroker kit and that would be a good time to change the cam.

thanks KEN
