I'm looking at Ford Motorsports Crate 302/315hp (possibly the 345hp version). I'm learning as I go, and I'm curoius what else is needed to complete the engine. The engine goes for $3195, and I'd like to know what else I would need to complete this engine (for Carb set-up). The EFI set-up looks to be quite a bit more expensive (maybe I'm wrong). What's a ballpark price to finish this off...(nothing fancy, just basic intakes etc...).

web page

Thanks,

Intake- $250
carb-$400
Fuel system- $300-$700
Ignition system- $500-$600
You will want to change the front of the engine to the Fox Mustang timing cover, balancer, and water pump.

Gordon, why do you state that Ronin will need to change the from cover and water pump? Don't you only need to do this if you are going to use a v-belt setup?

The Explorer system that comes on the crate engine will work fine but there are some very expensive additional parts that would be needed to use the Explorer front instead of changing it over to Fox. First is the Alt bracket- about $200, alt-another $200, belt tensioner-$90, dead wheel- $75, PS stuff if you want PS- $400, etc... None of the aftermarket brackets or pulley will fit the short system.

I've got an Explorer engine in my Mustang right now with the short front cover. Got the alt bracket and alternator from www.car-part.com and put on a new tensionor and idler wheel. Wasn't nearly that expensive (granted, all used parts). Works great!
