Hey, I've been looking for an aluminium block 5.0 crate motor and can't seem to find any with the suppliers I'm used to going to. Also, is the durability loss on the block not worth the weight savings? I'm looking for a motor that can run anywhere between 250-320 to the wheels. I really don't want to go over that mark, but want a motor that I can detune if I desire. Weight balance is very important to me, but I'm still running numbers to figure out what my distrobution will be.

Any help would be appreciated, and no, it's not an FFR. I'm sorry for having to come here but you guys know much for about 5.0 tech than anyone else on the net, plus FFR guys are just plain kool.

Take care, and burn it if ya got it.

Aluminum 302 block is about $3600-3900, for 100 lb block (I think that saves about 70 lb from the cast iron counterpart). Only other plus side is the larger bore capabilities that help unshroud the vales. Bennett will build you an aluminum motor, but it will cost a boat load of cash.

The block can be resleaved unless the motor blows up big time and puts a hole in it. The question is how badly do you need to save the weight. A light crankshaft, rods, pistons, and flywheel/clutch assembly could save you almost as much weight as the block itself.

good point, and if you save the weight on the inside instead it should rev real nice. Well, at that kind of price, i'll have to REALLY come into money to do that... but in that case i'd be buying a spec racer in a heart beat, so i guess it's a moot point. Thanks for the info.
