Don, I heared that some years were better for the 351W block. Mine is a D4AE block. Thats a 1974 right ? I also have a 1969 block that is part of a very nicely running motor.

The D4AE is in my FFR Coupe. Its been stroked to a 418W by speedomotive with 70cc combustion chambers in Victor Jr. heads. It needs a Harmonic Balancer, and I ordered one from Summit. Its a 28.2 OZ externally balanced damper, but it has a removable weight that I will remove because my 351W (418W) is internaly balanced. Does that sound right to you ?

David

The D4AE is the same block I have. It is the last yr of the good blocks 1974 other than a new race block.

It sounds like you are correct on the balancer. If you have the bob weights etc from the previous balance, a good shop will know if you have to take away or add to the bare balancer. A good shop can take the old balancer and make the new the same weight.

Remember on the older blocks the deck height was shorter before 1974.
