FE Oil Filter Adapter

OK, I use a lot of books for reference mat'l (and now forums!), and I read that the C0AZ-6881-A is the BEST flowing oil filter adapter. I find a NOS C0AZ-6881-A on ebay and buy it. It arrives today; the box is labelled C0AZ-6881-A, but the actual part is clearly marked C8AE-6881-A. The C8AE ports look better than a stock FE oil adapter, but is it as good as a C0AZ?? Did I get took?

thanks in advance for your replies and sharing your knowledge!!

i've got the exact one sitting on my desk in front of me. (C8AE-6881A)
It's just a new cast of the earlier larger port. At some point they just stopped making the small port version.
Good news is you got a good one. Bad news is you can only a short filter like a FL300. The standard size FL1A won't work. It hits the frame.
Really should do a remote filter mount IMO.

Another option you could try is the filter mount from 67-72 2wd trucks.
They stick strait out rather than down. Shown here http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ford-...Q5fAccessories
I should have a couple around, I'll see what size the ports are.
Headers aren't on in this pic but I think you'd have room for that adapter.

Thank you!

Hey Convincor, thanks for the reply. I'll keep the remote in mind as an option. I don't have my engine in the frame yet, so I didn't know that there'd be interference with filter/frame.

thanks again,
Joe

I did the same thing and just ran with the shorter filter as long as I could stand it. Then had to do the remote. It's only money....

Hey Convincor,

again, thanks for your input and experience. I think I have a remote oil filter kit in a box somewhere; all I would need is the FE block adapter. The original owner was planning on a stroker FI SBF/auto, I purchased it before any assemby was started, but did not purchase his engine/tranny. I have boxes of stuff in the attic that isn't pertinent to my build plans, but I'll have to find that remote filter mount.

Another question: I note from your pic's that you are using a mech fuel pump. Which one?

thanks again,
take care,
Joe

I wouldn't recomment the remote that comes with the kit. Very restrictive.
For the block adapter, Gess Ford has a shelby piece, but not cheap.
http://www.gessford.com/cobraparts/fmisc.htm

Fuel pump, I did have a Carter on it last year, but have a strange rubbing noise that I could only hear a a certain RPM. Went though the engine over the winter and the only thing I found was the fuel pump spring seamed a little weak. Bought a Holley, seemed a little stiffer and don't here any noise.
But, I also changed push rods from 3/8" Cranes to 11/32" CompCams.
The cranes were showing some rub marks on the intake. With the length difference and diameter different there's plenty of clearence thru the intake holes now.
The Holley pump is ok, but if I were to do anything else I would definatley go to the Edelbrock. There's in the only FE pump that has 3/8"NPT fittings were the other are all 1/4"NPT.

Seems to be a very informative post with even providing info with images as well as that makes things a lot very easy to understand, and does cover problems extensively and provides enough information for even a novice.

Smile FE block adapter

Hi,
I make two of these. They are billet aluminum with 1/2" NPT female ports with a 1/8 NPT oil pressure port. One has a 3/8" NPT port for oil temp sensor.

Thumbs up FE adapter

Hi sharkx,
Thanks for posting the picture. I think it looks really good and as you can see it has a temp sensor port in the middle bottom.
