Seems this topic gets beaten to death, and a search of older posts just proves it. I, like several dozen others I'm sure, am trying to decide on wheels. Actually, I'm trying to decide wheel backspace. I'm using the spindles and axles from the M2300K brake kit, which seems to be a more common occurrence these days. I am not going to assume that everything is "SN95", because some of the componenets might be even later. I do know that the axles are 61.25", more or less, from mounting face to mounting face. This is about 1.25" more than the 2 "donor" axle setups I measured. From what's been posted, I should go with a 5.95" backspace in front, and that 9" is a prudent maximum width. That would equate to a 36mm offset, which is not difficult to obtain, I think. I was actually thinking of 8.5" front width, but I haven't seen too many wheels that size. For the rear, I gather that 6.42 is the correct backspace for my axle width. With a 9.5" wheel width, that's a 42mm offset. I've seen lots of pictures with this combination, but the rears always look like they're too narrow..they look like they should have less backspace. My ideal setup is 285/40-17 on 9.5" wheels in back, and 255/45-17 on 8" wheels in front. These are 26.2" in diameter, which is pretty close to the 27" tires these bodies were originally designed for. So, I guess the basic question is whether or not anyone out there has actually used this combination, how did it look, and whose wheels did you use. I've investigated every 17" and 18" Cobra R variant, and don't like them. I want something closer in appearance to the Bullit or Torque-thrust II. I may want something I can't have. Any help would be appreciated.
Happy motoring
