I've got a FE w/Edel alum intake and Holley carb in a MKIII, using the FFR BB motor mount adapters. For looks, I used the finned Cobr@ LeMans valve covers, so I thought I'd use the finned oval Cobr@ air filter too. With the ~1 3/4" filter, the back end is against the body. I would like to use the taller K&N filter (~2.5" tall) but I don't have room. I'm thinking of keeping the oval filter for shows/cruise-ins, but using a 10" or 12" round filter for better performance for everyday driving and the occasional track day.
Drop base? 2" or 3" filter?
What's everyone running w/FE's? Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Joe

i have not bought a air filter yet for my 445,i wanted to wait to see what kind of room i had
i would like to run a turkeypan?. some one told me that the 427 street cars ran a 14 inch air cleaner, so you could buy one of the retro 289 air cleaners and get a 2.5 or 3 inch k&n air filter.

I'm not using a carb spacer. FFR BBF FE motor mount adapters. Canton oil pan looks right in relation to the frame, FFR/Hooker FE headers fit correctly in side pipe opening, side pipes fit correctly, etc. Edel 7105 intake, Holley 850 DP.
The only thing possibly might be different in my case is the configuration of the oval air cleaner. It is supposedly an old original style, not a recent repro or recently manufactured. Base is for single 4bbl, but the ribbed top has two holes for wing nuts to give the look of dual 4 bbls. Specific hardware allows attachment of base to carb and then top to base. Oval filter is 1 5/8" high. I had to grind clearance notches on the underside of the base to clear the float adjustment screws/jam nuts on the Holley float bowls. I trimmed approx 1/8" off the body to clear the rear of the air cleaner.
Maybe I should try an oval filter housing of more recent mfgr with a single hole in the top.
Is any of this sounding familiar to anyone? If anyone has any ideas or suggestions, I could provide pics.
Thanks,
