Most street small bock windsor 302's are only putting down 300....

350 or 400hp is ALOT of power for a 2300# car.....

FUN FACTOR = HP / MASS

4.6L @ 350 - 400 HP will be just fine (specially if you can find a DOHC 4.6) and easily doable with a few go-fast parts...

Your horsepower numbers should be easy to reach with cams and heads. Even the stock motor hauls ass up to about 80mph. Above 80 is when the bigger horsepower numbers will really be noticed.

I'm using a dohc 4.6 from a Mach1 in my hot rod. I'm hoping for 350 at the wheels with modest bolt-on stuff. Stack efi, MS3 ecu, and no accessories to drive except the alternator. If I was using a sohc 4.6 I would not be able to use the stacks but I would leave it stock and use a turbo at 9psi or less. At 350rwhp my 2200 lb hot rod will be peppy enough.

I'm currently putting a 4.6l in mine from a '01 cobra (119k miles). I too went with the modular for quick-n-easy hp in a street driver.

I picked-up the Sean Hyland SA82 "How to Build Max-Performance 4.6-Liter Ford Engines" which is giving me some good insights on the internals. Seems the tricky thing about the 4.6 is making sure you find the correct parts for the correct engine setup. I'm almost to the point of cracking the engine open to check how much abuse it has taken - awaiting the gasket sets and arp stud sets to arrive.

I'm finding that the DOHC components are becoming a little harder to find, and tend to run into higher $$$$'s. It was a fairly tough decision to bite the bullet and dump more money into the engine for longevity and peace of mind over driving the rest of the life out of it as-is then replacing it. Being somewhat overshadowed by the 5.0 and now Coyote, I'm hedging that it might be collectible in time - but then my karma with collectibles has been that they don't gain value until *after* I unload them....

Good luck on your hunt!
