2 speed fan question?

Does anyone understand how the OEM Ford 2 speed fan setup is supposed to work?

Specifically, (since I can't tell from the wiring diagrams I have seen), does the PCM, via the CCRM, turn the low speed fan OFF before energizing the high speed fan, or does it simply continue to feed power to the low speed circuit once it decides to turn on the high speed circuit?

I am just trying to understand how Ford intended the 2 speed fan motor(s) to work.
