Alligning sidepipes?

Before I jack up the car/engine, I wanted to verify the "correct" way to fix the following sidepipe problem. The picture is of the passenger side. I'm using the stock header and FFR's cat,/j-pipe. On the passenger side its a direct bolt-up. There is no adjustment possible like at the j-pipe ball and socket connection on the driver's side. Should I just loosen the tranny and engine mounts and rotate the drivetrain? Or is this a problem with the pipe or cat? I'm guessing I need to move the pipe out from the frame about 1".

Thanks

Ed

Hi Ed,

Is the tail shaft of the tranny aligned with the pinion on the rear end? If it is, a wedge kit from Breeze will fix your problem. Will move the pipe away from the body about 3/4". How's the fit with the body at the passenger side pipe exit? This may help decide how to proceed.

HTH,

John

What John said...

Is your drive-line straight? Align the drive-line then adjust the pipes from there. If you have it straight, you need the wedge from Breeze. http://www.breezeautomotive.com/deta...=509&cat_id=26

You can also buy extra flanges from FFR if you need to move the pipe away from the body.

John

I'm a little slow, please help me. When you refer to pinion angle do you mean the angle between the tail of the transmission where the driveshaft connects and the flange on the pumpkin for the rear axle where the driveshaft bolts-up?

from researching previous posts it appears that these two points should be alligned right-to-left, but the rear axle bolt location should be lower than the tail on the transmission (up and down), correct? It also appears that whole assembly (tranmission, driveshaft and connection at axle) should be shifted toward the passenger side in realtion to the centerline of the transmission tunnel on the frame? Is this correct?

Thanks

Ed

Hi Ed,

Yes, the transmission alignment with the pinion flange should be centered left to right. And yes, the pinion flanges should be lower than the transmission a little bit to get a good pinion angle - I believe this is primarily for solid axle applications. Might not be the same for IRS. To align right to left I had to move my transmission about a half inch toward the driver side. I'm running a T3650 with a solid 8.8 axle. Depending on your setup, it may be different.

HTH,

John
