I have four-wheel disc brakes, 95 Mustang stock caliphers. Just installed 84 Jeep Cherokee master cyclinder and Wellwood proportioning valve.
The front port went to the rear brakes and the back port went to the front brakes into the pro
valve.

Took it for a test drive and it seemed to work good when the prop valve was all the way open. I adjusted the prop value to take some front brake out. I test drove it again and the brakes began to lock up (seemed more front than rear) and all the caliphers were extremely hot. The brake pedal became very firm and could not push it (like it was stuck on).

Any suggestions. Thank you.

I would look at the push rod adjustment. If it is adjusted so the master can't return all the way the brakes will get hot and the pedal will get hard. I like to have a little free play in the pedal.

Everything I've read in the past, says to put the prop. valve in the rear brake line. I havn't driven mine yet so I'm just guessing at this point. Good luck, Randy Richards

Yes, the prop valve is to bias the rear brakes to keep them from locking up first due to the weight transfer.

Jeff,

My push rod seems to be adjusted correctly. Little bit of play in my brake pedal.

Randy,

I was under the impression that the prop valve would take some of the front bias out due to them locking up very quickly. I did this set up because my front brakes continually lock up when racing.

Chuck, proportioning valve goes on the rear brakes.

Prop valve to the rear brakes only. It alters the slope of the pressure curve. See Fred Puhn's excellent Brake Handbook for a detailed explanation with graphs and illustrations.

Thanks for all the responses. I'll check out Fred Puhn's brake handbook.
