I'm really at a loss here, the plate on the left came with my motor (351w from automatic 96 F150) It fits perfectly on my bell housing (The bellhousing is from a 302 powered foxbody mustang--I think...)The bell housing seems to match right up to the engine (all bolt holes and dowel pins line up just right).

I bought the plate on the right from Fortes since people on the forums all told me I could not use the automatic equipped backing plate. THe backing plate from Fortes doesnt even come CLOSE to matching the bolt holes on my bell-housing:

The bellhousing has the number "3.8" stamped in it and has the following casting number: RF-F6ZR-6394-AC
Do I have the wrong bellhousing??

Giff,
Here is a Fox Mustang Bell Housing:

Is does not have the ribs like yours.
Does yours fit the engine and transmission?
If so, then the only issue is the length so the input shaft fits the clutch spline and pilot bearing.

It fits the engine and trans,I noticed the pivot bolt is much longer than the one Fortes supplied with the clutch kit. I guess I got the wrong bell housing

After educating myself a little bit on the Ford casting numbers it appears this is a bellhousing from a 96 mustang.

The bell housing you show won't fit a small block V-8., only the 3.8 V-6. '96 V-8 trans uses a bell housing that is part of the trans. case. (T45) .

Looks like a FE backing plate on the right. The manuel trans backing plate should look alot like the automatic one. Looks like a truck bellhousing to me but the backing plate doesnt look right at all.
