I finally did it after more than a year of serious consideration. I moved up from a "poor man's Cobra" to the "real thing". Thanks to all those who have gone before me. You have been my inspiration.

Let the fun begin. My kit will ship 10/9/04 and I ordered these options:

3-link with coil overs, powder coated chassis, blank dash, full rollbar (like Ozona), front LCA's, carb wiring harness, body cutouts, hood hinge, and 14" leather steering wheel.

I Plan on building a 306 with AFR 165 heads, performer RPM intake, Holley 650, and a Comp 264 cam which should be good for about 395HP @ 6,000 and 378 ft/lbs at 4,600rpm.

4 wheel discs, hydroboost for brakes and steering, undecided on guages, color, and wheels at this time.

Can't wait to get started!

Congratulations. I ordered mine this morning (left a post earlier). I think we'll feel like expectant fathers for the next month. Better that than expectant mothers, I guess. This is going to be a blast.

Looks like that free shipping offer was a good thing for FFR and us. I saved $950 to TN. There are going to be a bunch of newbies on the forum now.

On the way home today while driving my (freakin) minivan, I passed a bunch of Honda S2000's with the tops down heading for the Smoky's. It must have been a sign. The first thing I did when I got home was order my kit!

What kind of car is the 'poor man's cobra'? It's pretty cool looking.

No way! Thats a Sunbeam Tiger. Imported from UK and they stuffed 289's in them.

Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car and oversteer is when you hit the wall with the rear of the car.
Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall and torque is how far you take the wall with you.

That's What I meant Sunbeam Tiger, but you do know that Shelby also played around with Tigers, don't you?

Ian Garrad was Rootes West Coast Manager. Well aware of the excitement the Cobra was generating, Garrad arranged for a meeting between himself, Carroll Shelby and John Panks (Director of Rootes Group America), to see if the Alpine could be transformed along the lines of Shelby's Cobra. Shelby agreed the Sunbeam transplant would be possible, and said that the small block Ford was the engine of choice.
Don't give the chicken farmer all the credit. Ian was the guy that saw the possibilities of the marriage of the American power plants and the little car, much like the cobra. I don’t understand why a lot of the guys here that do things themselves that are just as adventurous as the things the chicken farmer did don’t get the credit, or have the courtesy to give other people credit where credit is due. Talk to the people in the Tiger community about the Sunbeam being a “Shelby”, and I’ll come visit you in the hospital.

Thanks everyone. OK the "poor man's Cobra" was a Sunbeam Tiger, or in my case a "Alger", which is a 4cyl Sunbeam Alpine that was converted into a pseudo Tiger. It was a beatiful car that should have performed as well as it looked but unfortunatley it did not. It had all the right stuff but was poorly mechanically executed. And for the observent among you, yes that's a 350 Chevy in there not a period correct SBF. The horror of it all. The Tiger was indeed a Shelby colaberation and it was a wonderful car. My dad had one in the late '60s. So did Maxwell Smart. That's all I'm gonna say about that.

Moving forward now with no regrets!

Yeah, but Greg, did YOUR car come with a shoe phone? Or better yet, Agent 99?

All the best,
