Twenty two days on the ground! That's impossible to fathom. I distantly befriended Kenny Wayne Fields, a USN pilot that was on the ground for 40 hours during the Vietnam war. The USAF and USN flew a combined 187 sorties to rescue him.

If you want to read an excellent first-hand military book about surviving jungle cats and Viet Cong, this is for you:

Yep, 22 days had to be a real adventure. I had a 5 hour ordeal while heading to kill some bad guys just North of Kuwait City. We got picked up, I grabbed some parts, tools, and a mechanic ... 2 hours later I have the aircraft fixed and back in the fight. That was less than a regular work day and I'll never forget it. In bad guy land for 22 days, amazing.

Bump to the top.

What we risked to save one man, and yet 4 men, 1 an Ambassador and 2 ex-Navy Seals, were left to die in Benghazi... Do what you want with this comment but that is the fact of the matter. A US Ambassador was attacked and killed, while military forces in the area were ordered to stand down and do nothing.

I write this with tears in my eyes, both for the story just told but also for what we have lost since Vietnam.
