well guys
I just got back from the shop. we spent all day moving out. getting everything up to high ground and tucked in safe and sound. It took 5 of brendans friends and our whole clan.
All cars, tools, and equipment moved.
Plan for the worst, pray for the best. A year ago september our area was hit with a 100 year flood. ( That hits every 40 years ). Our shop was under 10 feet of water, this was before we leased it. Now just over a year later here we go again. I am very thankful though that we had ample time to prepare. For me the biggest loss is time. It seems like there is just never enough to do all the things I need to.
Ill keep everyone to date.
PS:
Some good news though. is Brendan and I were able to run his Leftover build mustang at an auto X yesterday. the car ran great.
Later

Went down to Long Beach Island yesterday to close up our shore house which is 7 houses from the ocean, very southern end of the island. We spent 2 weeks there in August and from then until now, I was shocked at how much the beach by our street has eroded and the storm wasn't even near yet. In looking back through pictures I've taken over the last 8 years, the beach was the smallest I had ever seen. What I saw yesterday looks almost identical to the day after hurricane Irene last year and the township had already made some emergency repairs by the time I saw things after Irene. At this point, I'm just hoping the house is still standing later this week. If the water only gets into the first floor, I'll be extremely grateful and count my blessings. At the same time, it's only a house and it can be replaced.
I talked to several people who rode it out during Irene and they all said they were evacuating this time. Sounds like people are taking it seriously, and they damn well need to...
Be safe everyone!

My brother has a place off the shore in Bethany, DE. At least 5 years ago while pumping sand onto the shore, the town of Bethany, built high dunes to protect the houses and town. They were so high the oceanfront homes could not see the ocean from their first floor porch or deck. Nor could you see the ocean from the short boardwalk they have. I'm sure they are glad the town did that now. We'll have to wait to see what happens to those dunes.
My son lives in an apartment in Baltimore, MD. Last Christmas, I gave both him and his girl friend a backpack of emergency food that is supposed to last up to two weeks. I also suggested, yesterday, that he get a small camp stove to boil water for this food, just in case. And among other things, I also told him to clean and fill up his bathtub for cooking water and flushing the toilet. Yesterday, he also spent the day preparing a job site he is working on in VA.
Here in the Burlington, Vermont area, nothing yet. We have prepared by tying everything movable down, fixing, cleaning and repairing leaf gutter guards and cleaning out a dry stream bed next to our house that will be running by tomorrow evening. I've also put our portable house generator in place in case we loose power. Both our cars are full of gas and I've got 25 fresh gallons of gas in storage cans.
I don't live anywhere near the ocean (near Detroit), We had 20-30mph wind all day yesterday and "they" say more of the same today. Sandy is sucking cold air down from Canada, Blizzard Bill is saying SNOW by wednesday. All Sandy's fault.
Just gusts so far on the central CT shoreline. No D cell batteries to be found anywhere, the stores are cleaned out of water, bread and potato chips. We went to a 1/2 dozen gas stations yesterday to fill the gas can for the generator before we found one without a line. A couple we closed - sold out of gas. We never did find propane, maybe today.
I emailed into work this morning, will be working from home for a couple of days! Stay safe everyone!
Looks like new york and new jersey are going to get hit hardest. Im right outside of Boston and its a little windy bjt not bad at all. State of emergency so I have no work today. Wife is baking cookies and im making a lasagna. Nice day so far.
I feel I have been dealing with Sandy for weeks, because I have. We are vacationing in Turks & Caicos where she has been lurking for days. This is no joke of a storm. High winds still exsist here, and beyond that we live on the South coast of MA. So I feel i like I got double whammied. Hopefull there is less damage up there than in the Caribbean , but I doubt that is going to be the case... Stay safe everyone
On another note, FFR 7207 has a new home. Good luck to the new owner, hopefully he enjoys it as much as I did.
SE PA here and its just a steady pouring of rain right now with gusting throughout. I am about an hour north of Philly and 25-30 minutes from the Jersey border, so basically directly in the middle of this beast's path...should be a fun time.
I am a bit jealous though seeing as people near Boston aren't working, and I am typing this from the office...

Governor of NH just declared the State to be in a State of Emergency. Doesn't want to have people on the roads this afternoon at all. Not even a breeze up here in the Boonies, so everyone is out driving around.....LOL.
I just saw a National Guard Humvee out on Main Street.....OMG.
The wind is expected to pick p here in the Boonies around 1-2pm. Expecting 30-40mph gust. I don't think it will be bad up here at all.
Famous last words.....

Spoke to my neighbor earlier today, she was told the water was chest deep on our street. She was also told one of the ocean front homes at the end of our block was 'in the ocean', still trying to find out if it was completely destroyed or what. From the pictures I've seen so far, this is going to be a disaster of epic proportions for the tri-state area...

Wind and rain really started to pick up here around 1:00. Gusts in the sixties, power blips every ten minutes or so. I'm 24 miles south of Boston.
Spent the last few days in Orlando. Part business and part pleasure. Wife and I were sitting poolside Friday morning, with the winds gusting up around 30 mph. Nice and warm though! Our flight back to Boston yesterday was 'fun'. I've still got marks on my arm from my wife's fingers.

Watching the news it seems the Atlantic City Boardwalk has been destroyed and they showed a big chunk of it floating up a street. Big Crane in NYC has been blown over and is dangling precariously over 6th ave. You can see the thing swaying in the wind. Man what a weird track for that storm to hook left like that. We are up to 30mph gusts now. Two hours ago not even a breeze.
I can't imagine what is like in NJ right now. My prayers are going out to everyone down there. It's gonna be a tough time for a while.
NOT looking good in Ocean City, NJ...

Wind is picking up around here but not much rain. Watching a half dead tree in front of my house twist at the base. Most likely going to go at some point.
Meatballs are in the oven then into the sauce. Lasagna will go in around 4:30.
heavy rain all day. Winds keep increasing. They are probably 30-40 mph right now. Im located in the middle of MD. One tree fell down so far. The wind is really suppose to crank up tonight.

saturday here in SoCal i was "complaining" about the weather, saying it was too warm, too sunny, and too perfect for Halloween time, which is my favorite time of year, and i wished i was back in New York City.
but it's things like this that really put things into perspective.
i hope everybody is okay, but if disaster strikes on your property, post 'em if you got 'em
I just got home. Had a few trees and biig branches down but it really just amonts to some wind and alot of raain up here in the Boonies. Top gusts are around 40mph. Power is still on. Let's hope it stays that way....
All the way south in NC we are getting 40mph winds, and constant light rain, temps dropping big time, and snow forecast in the morning..... Yes snow in NC in October.
