Finally getting ready to build the pool in my house. Built my house in 2007-8, and just didn't have the funds at that time to get to the pool. Last pool I owned was in my old house I sold back in 2005, so I'm behind on the latest pool technology.
Code is requiring I use a variable speed pump vs. the old standard single speed pump. Talk to me about these pumps.
Looking at deck jets, and came across the Magic Stream Luminar, LED Lit jets. Nice looking, but a bit pricy. Any other type of lit deck jets for less money that perform well?
Talk to me about Pool LED and/or fiber optic lighting. I'd like to do some cool multi-color lighting in the pool.
What other cool features, things are out there for a pool these days.

Opted to skip LED lighting...went with bunch of landscape lighting and regular underwater lights that actually make the pool glow fairly nice at night .... two things I wish I did when pool went in ....pull wiring for your outdoor speakers (forgot to do that) and also bury a backwash line to road (if your community will allow)
I procrastinated on serious outdoor sound until just this summer.....wired A-Bus amplified keypads for each outdoor zone (put them in waterproof electrical boxes - the ones with the plexiglass door) - have a zone for pool, lower deck and upper deck..expensive but with a remote is perfect for parties.
I can't help you on the variable speed, I'm still single speed, and regular underwater lighting, no LED's.
You didn't mention what type of pool; gunite/plaster, fiberglass, etc.
I have an inground fiberglass, it is 9 yrs old, looks just as good now as it did new.
I've used Baquacil products for years instead of chlorine or bromine on this pool, and previous pools. The EPA made Baquacil change their formula/ingredients a couple of years ago, I wasn't getting the same performance, I was not satisfied, plus they kept increasing their prices. This spring I switch to salt water......best thing I've ever done! Water quality is the best, and pool cleaning/maintenance is better than I've ever had. It was very easy to add the chlorine generator to the discharge of my pump/filter. After dumping the initial 300-400 lbs of table salt into the pool, now I only add a 4 oz dose of algaecide weekly. That's it! Brushing and vacuuming is 1/10 of what it used to be.
Hope this info is of value, best wishes!

fiber optic lighting they work great I hit the remote and have 6-7 stored scenes I have led lighting also and think it is the only way to go
lit laminar deck jets wast of money so load hitting in the pool you can not talk and the lighting is ok if it is reel dark. I turn them on for kids to jump through thats about it.
Fiber optic in the floor looks great it is like stars all over the bottom
LED lighting in the screen enclosure is pretty cool
