Today I watched dyno pulls on a 2,000+HP LS7 gasoline engine
My brother in law (Kelly Bise) owns the words fastest Camero (253 mph in the Texas Mile 2012). Today he tested his new twin turbo LS7 (LSX block) engine with a new tune.
The 427 LS7 engine made a conservative 2,091 RWHP and 1,546 RWlbs-feet of torque on 116 octane racing gas at 31 psi boost. Max power peaked at 6,100 - 8,000 rpm. His current 253 mph record was set with a 1,500 RWHP twin turbo LS7 on 21 psi boost
The new engine will make up to 36 psi boost and also has a 300HP nitro shot if needed. Kelly hopes to go 265 mph in the Texas Mile next weekend.

DMW,
Did you see the red strap hanging from the cage? It was leaning back at 45* in every gear and leaning forward when the shoot deployed.
You can hear the rear tires braking loose at 200 mph as well. The car has a micro switch for each gear that closes allowing setpoints for max boost on the motor-operated waste gates. This keeps the boost just under the point where the tires brake loose.

The car was Kelly's daily driver until a few years ago. He wanted to build a world record car that was street legal. It has all of its original interior and panels, carpet etc. It is not stripped down and lightened, He added racing seats, a roll cage, and a fiberglass extension to the trunk.
The rear end gear is very low numerically to get to 270+ in 4th at 8000 rpm. The car runs Hoosier drag tires. The near stock 5-speed tranny has no synchros! The clutch is 5-disc carbon fiber.
Between Texas Mile competition runs, the car does 60 to 130 mph exhibitions in 4 seconds.

Last evening Kelly's Camaro ran 263.2 mph. That's 10.1 mph faster than last year. The Ford TT GT (Mark Heidaker's) ran 0.1 mph faster than the Camaro.
The bad news is the Camaro lost the tranny and is out of the competion for the final day. If the tranny had lived, they were going to dial up the boost 5 pounds to 36 psi and go for a new world record and their personal goal set at 265 mph. That will have to wait until Spring.

I learned the Camaro cracked the tranny case. The Ford TT GT (Mark Heidaker's ) had an engine failure so its 0.1 mph win over the Camaro stands until next time.

Hey Rob,
The dyno shop had a hopped-up, black, Buick GN there getting a tune. I though of you when I saw it.
Greg
Pretty cool Greg. Those 3.8 Turbo 6's can crank out a sick amount of power souped up. I've seen well over 1,000 HP out of a somewhat stock bottom end 3.8 Turbo 6

The Texas Mile ran again last weekend. Kelly Bise, my BOL, brought the World's Fastest Camaro back for another world record attempt.
More power was added, a new aerodynamics treatment and a $20K roll cage installed. Things went very wrong on Saturday when the front spoiler let go at 240 mph and the car got very unstable. It flipped end-over-end 7-8 times at over 230 mph, totally destroying the $500,000 car. The driver was air lifted to Corpus Christie where he was treated and released a few hours later.
The Hennessey twin turbo Ford GT broke its record from last year and when the Camaro flipped, Hennessey packed up and went home knowing the record was secure for this year.
Pics to prove it happend. The guy in the background is my brother.

Sorry about the wreck, glad, and amazed he was treated and released.
My brain cannot grasp that severe of a wreck and the driver is OK. Yesterday I watched video of Pat Bedard's 1984 Indy 500 wreck and still am amazed he survived.
A real testament to the engineering of the safety harnesses, roll cages and other gear to keep these guys alive.
wow, glad he is ok. It looks like he added a little more splitter on the front. I can't imagine how much force is on that piece at 250mph. Its probably over 900lbs.

that's some wild stuff and for a guy to have so few injuries as the driver did, is a real testemant to the saftey features of the car.

Thanks guys. The driver, tuner and owner of the race shop is the nicest guy you'd meet. He's in his mid 30's and has 4 kids. It would be a tragedy to lose him.

Greg, man so glad to hear the driver was okay, that looks like one hell of a tumble, can't even image what the ride must have been like. Money well spent on the cage for sure.

Absolutely incredible, thanks for sharing. Hate to hear about the crash, but glad the driver is ok. Just proves what they say. There is ALWAYS somebody faster.
Glad to see he's OK Greg. That was a heck of a machine. It's amazing how tentative it all is at those speeds and one tiny, yet critical variable changes. Wow.

wow...that car is a mess. Amazing that someone can survive something like that. Other racers should be lining up to have the shop that built that car & cage build theirs.
