A couple other stratospheric jumpers

Clifton M. McClure: Body temperature reached 108F yet he remained fully conscious. Doctors did not think that was even survivable.
International Space Hall of Fame :: New Mexico Museum of Space History :: Inductee Profile

Nick Piantanida: First attempt: balloon failed and he landed into a garbage dump. Second attempt: he tried to jump from 123,000 ft but could not release his oxygen tube and ended up having to ride the craft back down. Third Flight: during the ascent his pressure suit failed and he explosively decompressed at 57,000 ft. He lingered for 4 months in a coma before dying.

Wow I read the whole Nick Piantanida story. What an interesting guy. If it wasn't for his tragic end this would have made an awesome movie.

Two fascinating stories. Thank you for sharing. Where you find this stuff amazes me.

...Nick's story: if he would have been successful in his 3rd attempt, what would his next challenge have been? (that guy was unstoppable)
