We jst had a 4.6 magnitude earthquake...

Centered right outside of Portland Maine. Felt all over New England. I know this isn't Cali, but a 4.6 is pretty big for up here in the Boonies.
I seriously thought a M1 Abrams tank was driving by my house....I got to the door and could hear the rumble trailing off into the distance heading south/west.

M4.6 - 5km W of Hollis Center, Maine 2012-10-16 23:12:22 UTC

Hi,
I missed it this time. Everyone in the house felt it but me.
Ask yourself, Am I ready for the BIG one?

Wow, that's big for New England!

Wait til it shakes the house so much that it makes you jump out of bed, stand in a doorway, and keep repeating to yourself "Please God make it stop!"

being born and raised in California, I have gone through my fair share of rumblers and shakers...It is just that you are not ever expecting one in the Northeast. Like I said the old granite this state is built on is pretty hard so when it does move it translates well into your buildings foundations and infrastructure. Even though there was no damage around here I had to check around work this morning for any leaking pipes or cracked plaster in this 260 year old Inn building, and barn. The rest of the place is much newer so no problems anywhere luckily....

I experienced the Northridge quake a ways back. Now that one scared me. When I moved to Florida and the shuttle landed and created the sonic boom I thought we were having a quake here.

Born and raised in Southern Cali. The longest quake I have been through I would estimate to be about 10-20 seconds. I would bet that the one in ME was pretty short lived as well.

Now try and imagine the quack in Indonesia a few years back. I watched a couple documentaries on it recently and they both said that the quack was felt for EIGHT MINUTES! Can you even imagine the thoughts that go through your head after 8 minutes of intense earth quack? Must have seemed like hell until it stopped. Then it really did turn into hell when the sunamai hit. 270,000 killed. Pretty amazing stuff.

You guys might as well move out here to CA for the nice weather if you're going to have quakes in New England too.
