the green police

Ok guys, I just read the following short story on another car (Trans-Am) forum I frequent,,,and just have to share it with you all.

here it is:

The other day I drove my T/A to work. I don't drive there too often, maybe once a month. It's 33 miles each way but the drive is pretty low-key with only a few traffic lights and it's mostly country roads over to work. I go to the Quik Trip gas station at lunch time to top-off as the 455 is really a gas guzzler and I like a full tank. It's not uncommon to get a couple compliments and the '78 style bird is pretty popular here in Georgia (i.e. Smokey & the Bandit).

I make eye contact with the guy at the next pump (driving a Smart Car). We do the customary "head nod" to each other and I start pumping gas. The smart car guy looks like he wants to say something? I'm thinking he's going to give me a compliment? He finally gets up his nerve and yells across to me "It's F$$$$$G guys like YOU that are KILLING THE PLANET".

I respond: "It's guys like you that wake up on the concrete all bloody and bruised and wonder what the hell just happened. Why don't you just get your 15 cents worth of gas and get the hell out of here before I kick your a$$". The smart car guy pulls the hose and races away as fast as his phone booth on wheels will carry his dumb butt.

There's another guy there pumping gas into his monster truck (a Ford with a huge lift kit and enormous tires). This guys is laughing so hard his eyes are tearing up. Me and the truck guy share a couple laughs before I head back to work.

I have NEVER had anyone pull this PC crap on me before. I'm really still pissed about it. I am NOT a tree-hugger but I also own four(4) Honda Accords and I don't think my B.S. carbon footprint makes me a bad guy because I drive a T/A for less than 1000 miles a year. If that guy was so concerned about the planet he should be riding a bicycle!

Has anyone else experienced this kind of crap?

The green police really irritate me. Their "I'm better, because I'm greener" just burns me.

Have a question: wouldn't it be more green to drive and old / recycled car (no offense) that gets bad gas mileage, than to drive a new car that gets good guess mileage? Doesn't building a new car have a significant carbon footprint? Especially the Electric cars. I heard they are environmental disasters! And what are they going to do with all of those batteries when they die?

Well, that question would cause them to actually have to think. That's just too much work.

If he did his research he'd know that it was more harmful and costly to build one of those little "green" cars.

As far as "killing the planet" is concerned. I always shake my head at the arrogance of statements like this. The planet will get rid of US when it's ready. We are already overdue for extinction. And that's a fact.

All that being said, I love those little eco-friendly cars...but he really needed to mind his business.

I have often wondered the same thing. It takes a lot of energy to produce a car.

That said, from what I have read and studied, a lot of the claims about how ecologically unfriendly building a Prius is, are simply untrue. The power of the internet: Lies are just as easy to spread as truths.

While it does take a lot of energy to build a car, assuming the auto manufacturer is out to make a profit, it can not take, by definition, more energy to produce a car than the cost of the car. Cars consume on average far more in energy over the total life of the car than the energy it costs to produce them.

Smart cars. phsssssh.

Listen to this thing (the car)! Would you have a lady like this asking for "more" in a Smart Car? Almost enough power for knees to get to ears.

I just want to put a BIG public "Thank you!" To all those Prius, Insight, Volt, and Leaf owners out there. I just bought a new truck and will need much of the fuel they're not using. It's a 2011 GMC Yukon XL SLT 2500. So far it's a fantastic truck! I'm getting spoiled by a couple of the features like the memory seats and the Bluetooth.

Thanks again Tree-Huggers!

Why not just confuse the Greenies, by telling them, that since you can go the same distance in 1/4 of the time their car can, you actually use less fuel then theirs does.
While they are still trying to figure that one out, your tank is full, and you can "quickly" leave..

How cool would it be to build a "monster truck" or some other 70s car with a Prius or another "smart car" under the hood? I mean like the WHOLE THING under the hood. It's a long ways to go for a gag, but wouldn't it be hilarious when one of these guys/gals spouts off to say "Hey, why don't you come take a look at this?" Then pop the hood!

I've had that conversation also. I just inform them that my Roadster is built from re-cycled parts that I kept out of landfills. Recycling is 'green', right?

I actually had a Prious (Pious Prius driver) guy roll down his window 2 weeks ago and yell at me at a stop light for driving such a gas guzzler. I drive a 99 F-350 7.3L quad long bed 4x4 and was pulling my dump trailer with 6,000lbs of pavers.

Didn't say a word, took it...then when he got this smug look of both disgust and self-righteousness on his face, I replied.

Rolled forward, loaded up on the throttle and dumped a load right in his window.

I figure next time he'll be quicker on the window crank.

That is one of the best pictures I have seen to illustrate how small a GT40 really is. All done in the name of low frontal area and top speed at Le Mans, but when I looked at the numbers for the GT40 it was almost unbelievable how small that car was. This illustrates that fact very well.

Smart car Why is it called a smart car because uber liberal people think they are smart when they drive stupid cars. Prius should be Pius, as the owners are almost all a bunch of jerks. The math mostly does not add up. To recover the savings in gas mileage you can not really spend what a prius costs and recover it unless you put up with the heavy rough riding turd for like 10 to 20 years. The average person will not save 1000 bucks a year in gas.

I have a car that gets close to 30 and then I have the excursion 7.3 diesel, I just tell people it is a lot better than the suburban, as it gets twice the mileage the suburban got. I do not tell them how bad the burb was.

Good on you Alain, what a panty waste. Richard.
