Having seen what can be done (yours and Jim's), I'm convinced this will be my best build ever! The goal is to make a car only a purist can tell the difference.

Congrats, but just a question. I know we are all FFR fans here, but with the kind of money you are planning on investing Bill, wouldn't it be better spent on perhaps going the Kirkham or similar route, instead of FFR?

I'm not trying to speak for Bill here, but for me the $$ side of what I am building makes just about ZERO sense. I could go buy something non-FFR that would work VERY well and cost a bunch less, but I see this community like a family and I am passionate about FFR vehicles as I think they are far and away better on styling details. Sure there are some things that have to be totally redone in my eyes, and sure that costs a lot of $$, but after visiting some of the other kit car forums and talking a bit with the other "families", for me anyway, I will not build something that is from any FFR competitor. For me it's about the extended family, loyalty to the brand, and end product. All of which I see FFR being as good or better than the alternatives.

I would have loved to have a Kirkham, but the 289 kit starts at $81k+. My build will be less than that

Crash is pretty close. I probably could build a Unique 289 for less. But the authenticity wouldn't be there. Close, but not enough. The other alternative is an ERA. Very nice car, but it comes mostly built from the factory.

I love FFR, this forum, and the many friends I've made over time. Plus, I can put my fabrication skills to test.

I have nearly everything to build the car in boxes in the garage. I need the transmission, wheels and tires, and exhaust.

I stopped into the factory last year and got a nice tour from the owners wife. That 289 is pretty awesome......but the frame still isn't as good as the FFR if you decided to track it. Plus they use the Jag rear suspension. The body blows my MK3 away though....I'm estimating that body would take me 1/2 as long to prep for paint as my MK3 did.

Oh I forgot that. Now I remember your post on those and they looked great. Really liked your fuel line setup. Looking forward to more build updates.
