Former Detroit Lion defensive lineman and NFL Hall of Famer Alex Karras died Wedneday at age 77 due to kidney failure.
"The Pride of the Lions" left fans with many memories on the football field, in the broadcast booth on Monday Night Football and on TV as "Webster's" dad.
His funniest and perhaps most iconic moment on screen came as Mongo in the Mel Brooks' classic "Blazing Saddles."
Alex Karras had a wonderful sense of humor and one time while doing commentary on "Monday Night Football" he said this classic as a television camera beamed a sideline shot of the 6'5", 265-pound Otis Sistrunk's steaming bald head to the nation. prompted Karras to suggest that the extraterrestrial-looking Sistrunk's alma mater was the "University of Mars.
