and for the past couple of years, I have taken my iPod out to our back fence line that backs up to the route and played "motivational music" thru an old amp and a pair of speakers to encourage and entertain the runners.
Stuff like ..
"Theme from Rocky"
"Theme from Chariots of Fire"
"We are the Champions" (Freddy Mercury's classic), and
"Theme from Mission Impossible"
(OK - this last one may not quite be as motivational as the others - but I enjoy playing it for them ... LOL)
The runners really seem to enjoy it and since I can't actively participate (2 metal 'replacement' knees) - I'm looking to make it a 'tradition'.
What suggestions of other appropriate and motivational songs should I consider adding to the mix?
Thanks
Lynn
BTW - I am looking for a clip from the movie "Forrest Gump" .... the young girl's voice calling .... "Run Forrest, Run" - but haven't found one yet.
(Making them smile is a good thing!)

In keeping with a recent thread (my daughter just showed this to me), may I humbly suggest that you loop the tune "Gangnam Style" and study how many marathoners break stride and do the horse dance as they pass your house.

Today was a great day for a marathon, and our family friend got first overall for female - 2:43.
After some family running it, one thing they liked the best was the people that got involved the most. That extra boost of motivation goes a long ways, especially for the later crowd!
Thanks for the music!

I'm old school here, I suggest for your consideration, Vivaldi's 4 seasons. I listen to it often when I'm going for a "spirited drive" and like it a lot. It's considered classical music but there are parts of it where it's very intense. Take a listen to it and parts of it might work for you.
CB
another vote for Vivaldi here.
My favorite is Summer mvt3 sometimes called "storm"
I've been known to crank it up in the garage, usually the night before a track day while doing a final wipe down of my car.... Just gets my blood moving.
LOTS of great suggestions - thanks to all who responded.
Not so sure about the "Gangham-style" piece, but it might be fun to see if people change stride etc while it's playing!
Thanks esp. for the "Run Forrest Run" clip. Now I need to figure how to get it onto my iPod And yes, if I'm successful in getting it transferred, it'll only pop-up periodically in my "marathon loop" so as to not make me loopy by end of the day.
And yes - that's me down in Winchester. "Ring-side seat" so to speak for the Marathon and the Iron Man - and playing the music for the runners is a great way for me to feel like I'm involved and to help support the event.
Lynn
