Tuesday, Oct 2nd--Howard, I passed you today on Novelty Hill Road as you must have been heading home from your flight. It was a beautiful day for your first acro flight and I am sure you enjoyed it. I was a little surprised that Doug did a Negative 2G push over as that usually is a good way to end up with your breakfast in your lap. For first time acro rides, I always kept it on the positive G side. Looked like another beautiful fall day and I'm sure you could see 100 miles. Good for you and way to go Doug. Paul BTW: That last photo sure looks like another POM candidate.
Thanks Doug - totally awesome day!! Flying inverted 4000' up with nothing between you and the ground is a trip!! The negative 2G was fun as well - breakfast was in no danger of making a reappearance.
I think the scariest part was the preflight briefing - Doug said "if I yell jump, jump, jump, it's time to exit the aircraft - and I'll be out by the the third time I yell jump!"
Can we do it again? Can we? Can we? Please??!!

I wanted Howard to get the full experience. It was only his second flight in a small airplane after all!
Plus, I kept checking to make sure he was doing good.

Very nice. When I retire from flying I see another Pitts in my future. I love the Skybolt and only recently heard Steen moved out of Marion to FL. We would zip down to Marion pretty often when we lived in NC. I had a friend that wanted a Knight Twister pretty bad.
I had a Sig Skybolt RC plane back in 78 or so. The typical Hale Wallace paint scheme. The N1HW in R/W/B.
Wednesday, Oct 3rd--Doug and Howard, I didn't mean to sound critical. I was thinking more in terms of having to clean out the cockpit. I have landed with guys that looked pretty green even with their feet firmly back on terra firma. It was probably my ham fisted technique more than anything else. Paul
Very cool guys, looked like a great day for a flight!! Howard, way to go on keeping breakfast in check haha. I've never rode in a plane that small, unless you count a short glider ride about 12 years ago. Looks like you had a blast!

Very cool. Howard is right up at the top of my list of "forum friends" that I hope to meet in person one of these days. He's helped me out with veterinary questions by PM a couple of times now, and is great about sharing his knowledge with guys here.
Looks like you guys had a blast!
Cheers, John

[QUOTE=lmmargheritis;2721065]Just currious. Did you guys land just short of the runway? Looks like you touched down on the grass before rolling on to the runway.QUOTE]
Well, we landed short of the paved part of the runway, but on the runway.
This runway is 3000' long, 700' is grass and the other 2300' is paved. It's 25 ft wide.
The way I land here is to center up on the grass, and wait for the pavement to show up in my periphery vision.
In this airplane, if I can't see the runway, it must be in front of me!

I kind of thought that was the case. I could see some tracks on the grass portion. My brother's RV-8 is a tail dragger and it freaks me out when I can not see the runway until he gets level. Nice plane by the way.
