I got my iPhone 5 in the mail today. I'm.. or I used to be, a droid user and got sick of the problems so I jumped ship. So far I'm impressed. Its working a lot smother than my incredible. It took about an hour to get all of my mail, contacts and appointments synced up, apps loaded passwords entered etc. I'm curious to hear any other opinions.

I got mine this morning as well. I had the 4 so familiar with the phone. It's an amazing piece of hardware. My favorite features, maps and the voice recognition for typing. It's come a long way. Adapters for charging already on eBay for 10 bucks.

Mine has 1-2 week delivery time even though I preordered last Friday. Saw one at the mall last night, pretty cool. Looks to me like the iPhone grew up and slimmed down a little.

Doug, I hear from my geeky tech friends how the droids are just as good as the iphone, but I'm wondering what some of the problems are that you've experienced with them?
the real key to the iphone is the availibility of integration. My car has a Iphone specific jack, clock radio, etc. Plus they interact perfectly with the ipad. Some of that will be lost with the 5 since they changed the jack. But i am still interested in seeing mine when it comes. Since i am on the west coast and verizon is shipping them from so far away, i am not getting it until monday. But i will survive!

I have an iPhone 4 and was really hoping for something a bit better than what they came out with. Probably won't bother upgrading at least until the Nokia 920 comes out - I might even switch to a Windows Phone!!!

Doug, I hear from my geeky tech friends how the droids are just as good as the iphone, but I'm wondering what some of the problems are that you've experienced with them?
OK. here is my review after playing with it for 24 hrs.
first to answer puddy's question. The geeks don't like Apple so that is the biggest reason IMO. I had a Droid Incredible, it was a couple of years old and the problems were, whenever i made a call from the history list, it randomly dialed the number below the one i touched. From time to time it just went crazy popping from one screen to another. The solution was to turn it off. When I turned it off I always got the safe start up screen... etc, etc.
The biggest difference is ease of use. I have an iPad so I was used to the interface so my learning curve was small. I loved the blackberry for email and integration with outlook but anymore they all work well with that. It took me about 10 minutes to configure all of my email calendar and contacts up from outlook. I'm not much of a game player so that wasn't even in the running. Even though I used many of the droid apps, I love the integration as a whole Apple has accomplished with their phone. I mean integration with all of the outside apps I use for business. Whenever I needed to access the internet, I never used my phone because it was clunky, awkward and slow. Now it is as fast as any computer because LTE is faster than 3G but mostly the wireless it much faster than my droid. Oh, and Siri... she's my new girlfriend We went shopping and I just asked her where I could find the item we were looking for and I got it all. I called the store to see if they had it and then hit the map for directions on getting there.
The differences between the 4S and the 5... not much. It is faster, "maps" is differend but i haven't seen the problem that has been mentioned in the press. It is about the same size as my droid but thinner and lighter. The screen seems to be clearer.
I'm not the kind of guy that wants the newest gadgets so the minor changes don't impress me all that much, the real difference for me is it's ability as a good tool that can do most everything I want it to and the iPhone 5 does that for me.
You guys have to watch the Futurama EyePhone episode on Netflix. It rocks!
Wife has the 4s, beggging me to get the 5 as right now I have a Windows Phone and it is giving me trouble. I love the integration of the Windows Phone and the simplicity of it but the OS is crapping out.
I am able to pick up my wife's 4s and help her get through some recent issues with her mail server. Intuitive but I don't want to drink the coolaid!
Best of luck to the 5 owners. It is everyone's right to have a phone they love and get rid of the one they hate!
Thanks Doug. I wont be rushing to trade up to a 5, but I will probably get the next generation ipad whenever that comes out, whether its a mini or full size. They really impress me and would come in very handy for alot of things.

All droid owners say their phone is as good as an iPhone but you never hear an iPhone owner say their iPhone is just as good as a droid.
Droids suck hindtit and are trying to catch up and iPhone owners know this.

I thought just the phone end changed to the firewire stile jack, not the usb end.
My wifes car radio has a usb2 jack in the console that works with any of my apple devices that I have tried, so I hope the 5 will also. She is about to switch away from her droid to the 5 because of the the problem Doug mention plus a few others.
edit: just realized your car has specific jack and not just the usb.

I had the original Motorola Droid years ago. I loved it at first but it started getting glitchy..... freezing, needed to be rebooted etc. The turn by turn directions were great. I then got an iPad 2 and was very impressed by how smoothly it operated and how intuitive it was. I replaced the Droid with the iPhone 4s and love it. I also have Apple TV and an Airport Express which gives me cheap whole-house audio that I can control with the phone or the iPad. I just upgraded the phone to ios 6 and it seems a bit better. I have no intention to upgrade to the iPhone 5, I will wait for th next one or the one after that. All in all I am very impressed by Apple products.

I had a Droid 2 for a couple years and had absolutely no issues. I just upgraded to a Galaxy S3 and I am blown away at the difference. The text to speech is downright scary it works so well.

Hehehe.... sounds like an iPhone is perfect for you then! My droids have all been perfect for me. There have been times when I've recommended iphones, droids, or no smart phone at all. It depends on the user and what they need / want to do with it.
I'm glad we have choices so we can get what suites each of us the best.
I will stick with my Blackberry 9900 until BB10 comes out. I need a business phone with security.
I'm with you. 9900 is a great device. They were simply a year slow in getting it out and the damage was huge. If people were comparing current Android devices and iPhones to the 9900 rather than ancient company provided Berrys I think they would be in better shape. Looking forward to 10 as well.

Hey guys, whats the big deal about the iphone5 ear phone jack being moved to the bottom of the device. I thought it being on the top was good and I also thought having the power cord go into the top may be better as well.
...Droids suck hindtit and are trying to catch up and iPhone owners know this...
Let me know when two people with iPhones can hold their phones back to back and trade all their music and pictures. My wife's and my S IIIs can do that.
Most droid owners say their phone is as good as an iPhone but you never hear an iPhone owner say their iPhone is just as good as a droid.
Fixed that for you.
I had an old iPhone (3) and never had any trouble with it until I updated the software. Turns out that Apple didn't test it and it made the phone run so slowly that is was nearly unusable. The only way to fix it was to wipe the entire phone or use the "fix" they came up with that only improved it but it was still crazy slow. When it was time for a new phone, I was so ticked at Apple and heard such great things about the Droids that I bought a HTC Thunderbolt when they first came out. My next phone will be an Apple. The droid is very much like a PC in that is just "freaks" out once in a while. Sometimes is just restarts for no reason, often is prevents me from using the LED as a flashlight or camera flash because is thinks a phone call in is progress, etc. I would say it is just this phone but I am on my 3rd (first was replaced due to a bad power switch, second was because I dropped it) and the problems are consistent. My daughter has a HTC Incredible and has had nothing but trouble...maybe it is HTC.
I will say that I prefer the way my droid syncs with Google.
Most people that don't like iPhones (and Apple) are typically the same ones that have never used them for any period of time. I've heard ridiculous claims from Crackberry users about security and availability of e-mail and app integration for business use.....I wish they'd just admit "I'm afraid of change"....

Don't take a Blackberry Users word, take the security companies research.
While it's no surprise that BlackBerry is the most secure operating system out there, what is surprising is just how far ahead of the rest it is. "When you look at the charts, they are vastly superior [to the other mobile operating systems]."

I use Bluetooth to sync my Blackberry to the car entertainment and phone system. "Jack, I don't need no stinking jack!"

The same can be said the other way often. Most people in my office that have switched from the Berry to iPhone or Android have done so while admitting some productivity compromises. I would go head to head with anyone on the time it takes to do key business tasks on my 9900. For me everything else is a distraction and secondary.
