Empire State Building Shooting

Another great day in NY, I think I will go home early today.

NEW YORK (AP) — New York City officials say several people have been shot outside the Empire State Building and that the gunman is dead.
City police say three or four civilians have been wounded in the Friday morning shooting and that the shooter is dead.
A fire department spokesman says it received a call about the shooting just after at 9 a.m. Friday and that emergency units were on the scene within minutes.
The spokesman had no information about how many people were wounded or their conditions.
The shooting occurred at 34th Street and Fifth Avenue.

Chris, thanks for posting, I just heard about it. I get dropped off from my bus at the Empire State almost every morning. For some reason today we went down 36th street instead and I decided to walk down Madison instead of 5th.

Good times for sure!

I don't believe "good guys/gals" are allowed to carry in NYC.
Unless you mean the cops, they have guns.

Good point. Rather ironic that there is this incident in a city that can arguably be said to be one of the, if not THE most restrictive on gun rights. Chicago might be worse, but certainly NY City is right near the top of the list when it comes to restricting a citizens right to carry a firearm...legally. Sure stopped this guy from perpatrating a gun crime. And he LIVED in the city!

Well used this as an excuse to leave early. Streets were jammed from 42nd south. I'm on 48th and the siren and helicopter noise was too much.

The good guys won this time. Cops got him and appears most are minor injuries. Only the cops and bad guys have guns here. The rest of us get j waling tickets.

How many of those shot were bystanders hit by cop bullets?

The news at noon around here said that two were dead -- one coworker and the shooter. The headlines now report that ten or eleven (depending on source) were shot. I'm wondering if any of those were unlucky citizens caught in crossfire, or if they were lucky victims that the perp failed to kill.

Cheers, John

So from what they are reporting, the police caused most of the injuries.

Two officers fired a total of 14 rounds at Johnson.

Johnson fired 7 rounds, had one left in the clip and another full clip in his briefcase.

If they count how many were fired at Ercolino. They have an estimate of who shot the most civilians.

Can you say lawsuit NYPD.

CNN is saying Bloomberg is considering a handgun ban for cops, they will only be allowed to carry tasers and billy clubs.

Oh yeah I can see that helping with nut jobs like this......NOT! Yeah let's make it that only the bad guys have guns. Yep, that's a really good idea. What the heck is Bloomberg snorting?

Bloomberg is one of the Kings of the anti gun movement(bowel movement that is) and I would expect exactly nothing less from him.

I'm thinking his days in office are numbered, but I also wonder what his replacement will look like.

The murderer has moral responsibility but I am sickened by this mess.

Be aware of what is behind your target. Use both hands. Focus on your front sight.

Maybe we need to issue NY cops carbines.

Mayor Bloomberg Says Cops Should Go On Strike Until Americans Give Up Their Guns

Quote:
New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg told CNN's Piers Morgan last night that he doesn't "understand why police officers across this country don’t stand up collectively and say we’re going to go on strike, we’re not going to protect you unless you, the public, through your legislature, do what’s required to keep us safe."
That was just a month ago...

The guy is out of touch.

I don't get why he is so popular. I think the whole thing with soda should tell everyone this guy has a screw loose.

It's confirmed now. There was a line of people waiting to tour the Empire State building. Every person shot except the initial intended victim was shot by police.

I'm glad none of the bystanders died.

Preliminary ballistics report is back:
One officer fired 9 shots.
Other officer fired 7 shots.
10 rounds struck the perp, in the chest, legs and arms.
This is the first time either officer has had to fire their weapon in the line of duty.

I'm glad neither officer was hit.
I'm also glad no bystander died.

There is survelance video in the link I posted above which shows when the officers approached the scene and the gun man pulled his weapon. Its right about 2:00 mark, but man is it me or does it look like the one officer is aiming in the wrong direction?

I am sure there will be a whole long investigation, but a bit scary to me.
