300 pound 12yr old told he can't play pee wee football
Because he is too big. Gee ya think?
I think the parents of this 12 year old should be more concerned that he 300 pounds at 12 years old rather than him not being allowed to play pee wee football.
The league is in a tough spot. They don't let him play and they get sued for discrimination. They do let him play and he crushes a kid and they get sued for allowing him to play. The parents should realize the situation and back away from the whole thing.
I played Pop-Warner football ages 8-16. The rules were very clear. You were weighed before every game a kids and if you were too heavy you didn't play. The big kids either moved up a division (if eligible due to age restrictions) or waited until high school to play. Cut and dry. Is it different now?
There are weight classes in wrestling and that isn't considered biased.... there should be a weight cut off for Football if American kids are gonna be that fat.

Bottom line is that this is a safety issue and everyone, including the boys parents, should understand and accept that. Sometimes you can't get what you want, that's life.
I had to weigh in before each game and if you were over weight, you didn't play. The rules did allow for growth during the season so you could weigh a bit more in November than you did in August, but they did enforce it.

He is 300 pounds......@ 12 years of age!
He weighs more than some of the NFL players who are pure muscle!!!
If I was his parent, I'd be concerned abut his weight. What about his physical to play? A 12 year old weighing 300 pounds wasn't a red flag to doctor conducting the physical?
In five years we are going to watching the news as the FD cuts out the side of his house to get him to the hospital using a forklift and a flatbed trailer.

Pee Wee and Pop Warner are different. Pee Wee goes by age/grade and the only weight restriction is for a ball carrier.

Well then, how does Pee Wee keep little 110 lb. kids from getting killed by 300 lb. kids? I'm not up on my physics, but I can only image how many pounds of force a 300 lb. kid could inflict by falling onto someone else on the ground.
EDIT: nevermind, I guess that question doesn't make sense, since Pee Wee football isn't letting him play. So I am curious, how do high school football teams keep this sort of situation from being a problem? I guess I'm assuming that High schools or even Jr. Highs allow everyone to play..??
Cory, have you watched the video? I don't see a huge gut on the kid and he seems to move well.

Mike, I agree, I think they did a pretty good job of not really showing the kids gut, but from what you could see he didn't look like fat albert, just like a BIG kid.
It sounds to me like they have a problem down there with the rules in general. The coach talked about how there are a lot of kids in the league over the 'weight limit'. I can see the point there if the rules arent being inforced across the board, then how do you decide where the line is?
