A Monday I should have called in sick

And no I wasn't speeding...lol...but everybody at work thought I was....

...the car simply shutoff...Tach was bouncing from 0-3000 with the car not running....car would not refire

course got a flat bed home....and....you guessed it....fired right up in the garage....

the good news is....the motor is just fine

Haha. Unless you were broke down, I'll trade. My Monday started with a No-Notice eval from DES. They're not normally fun and this one was normal.

So what happened??? Safety check? A pullover to look at the car? WTH?

Crank or cam position sensor bad or not getting a reading? Just my wild guess.

Cheers, John

That sux. I'll stick with my day. I got a few "wows" on my checkride, young guys are so easy to baffle with BS. I need to order the LAST 3 items to finish off my EFI.

Good luck.

If it is EFI I'd say your TFI thingy on the distributor is getting hot. happened to mine. Had to put a new one in. Been fine ever since.
Always great to have a pic of a cop parked behind you. Just don't put it on facebook. Your boss will fire you.....LOL.

X2

My vote is for the TFI Module. They'll work again after they cool off but that won't last long before they quit altogether. Easily changed. I know guys who carry a spare when they're on a trip.

I dunno where or how you have your crank position sensor mounted in your application,,,,but on many german cars they have a tendency to go to an "open" circuit when they get hot. (two wire sensors)
One way I test them is to hook an ohm meter to the sensor and warm it with a heat gun for about 45 seconds and watch the meter. If the resistance starts raising in a hurry, I know the crank sensor is breaking down.

This may not be your problem, but I see it almost daily on the late model euro stuff I work on. Just a thought.

The fact that you're parked in front of a "Toys R Us" store is priceless . . .

For some reason I'm picturing Barney Fife getting out of that old Chevy squad car.

LOL, that was a fun day. The GSP was just the first of our troubles. No tickets but lots of other excitement. It was around 11PM when I made it home that night. But that's for another thread.

I saw a NASCAR race where one of the ignition boxes crapped out and they went to the spare box.

Have you considered running another ignition box as a back up?
