Abdulhamidov was knocked down a total of six times.
The ref (Meretnyyazov) has been expelled from the game. A German assistant ref has been given a suspension for not preventing this. The result of the match was overturned.

Just like non-Olympic boxing.. IMHO it's one of the major reasons why the popularity has declined over the past 30 years. Obviously MMA has a lot to do with it too.
Heck I remember as a kid listening to Ali fights on the radio with my Dad.

Yep. I remember watching Ali fights on TV. Back then they were all televised on one of the three channels. I loved Ali, he knew how to entertain as well as fight.

It does appear that there is a 3 knock-down rule and the fight should have been stopped. Also seems like there's an allegation that surfaced before the olympics of a cash-for-medal payoff from Azerbaijan.
It almost seemed like a skit from Saturday Night Live, especially when the ref held up the hand of the boxer in blue..as the winner..That was priceless.
Saw that ref in early fights, and he was a bit of a dork for them as well.
I'm pretty sure the ref isn't the one tallying the score cards....who actually decided the bout.
Where are the judges that actually decided the bout? Why haven't they been called out?
I wouldn't exactly call all of those knock downs really valid. Most of the time the guy just looked exhausted and was somewhat pushed down by the opposing boxer.. Still a bad decision, but.......
This is news HOW?
International amateur boxing is the home of some of the most stupid and corrupt individuals on the planet.
