What is that clip from? I'm not sure what "The Newsroom" is.

I like what he had to say though. It is rare that a show takes a "logical" point of view.

So I take it this was a brief moment of logic so they could later shut him down and make him look evil since his character can clearly think for himself? That would certainly be typical which sucks.

Dang, I must have been living in a cave. I've "known" Jeff Daniels for almost twenty years (good friends with a close neighbor of his). But I've never heard of The Newsroom, does anyone know if it's out on DVD ?

Cool

The first season is not yet over, so I doubt it's on DVD just yet. This is a well-written show, and Mr. Daniels does a fantastic job.

Ignore the political jabs about the show. Anyone that watches it knows that it is about thinking for yourself, framing issues intelligently, and taking down those who'd rather do your thinking for you regardless of which side of any fence they stand on.

It's a fantastic show. Darren - New HBO series, Sunday nights at 10 I believe. However I kinda agree with BobNealy - Jeff Daniels' character is a news anchor on a cable news (a la CNN) channel who is a registered Republican. However, the show takes shots at the tea party, conservative beliefs, etc. So as the story is told, incorporating everything DARKPT said in his post, it also does it by attacking stances common to conservatives with no commentary on the liberal ideology. The omission of the "balanced" part of the reporting they do is subtle but I find that it's definitely there.

Not enough to keep me from watching though!

So it accurately portrays the main stream media and most cable news. Interesting....

I watched that scene the first night of the show and was hooked immediately......

Then each subsequent show they took jabs at REAL WORLD parties and REAL WORLD politicians **by name**, which stunned me. The show has some clever writing but is so blatantly left leaning by only mocking conservatives that it soured it for me. It would have been better if they poked at both sides...but they don't.
A common theme is only people capable of "intelligent thought" think their way.

The part I find distasteful is they mock REAL PEOPLE with nasty jabs and demeaning comments, all while hiding under the skirt of "fictional" writing.

Keep politics out of talking about a fictional news show that focuses on politics and real-world politicians? cmon bill. Keep it civil, yes. However, there's no way to keep politics out of such a topic.

The scene originally posted is a fantastic scene, so true.

Aaron Sorkin's baby (West Wing). A clever writer, but no surprise at it's political bent.

Apologies for my earlier post's political content.

The human side of the show is what makes me enjoy watching it. The dynamic of the relationship between the main characters, Will and Mackenzie, is excellent. The acting is terrific.

Yep!!

That was the best few minutes on TV I have seen in years.

This is NOT political ,it is ethics and morals and should be faced head-on ,rather
then pushed away and labeled just like the example they are trying to present.

It also represents what many have died for-there are no politics there.
If my last day was lying dead on a beach in Europe or Asia ,I would be pretty pissed off right now.

I like the part where he says "we should be Men" not metro sexual panzies w/o
backbones that seems to be the friggin disgusting norm today.

got that out ,thank you.
