Letters from my Father to my Mother 1966-67

I am doing some cleaning in the basement and was going through some of my fathers belongings, that I took from his home after he passed away.
I found some letters that he sent home from Vietnam. He was a Marine that had been in WWII, Korea, and two tours of Vietnam.

This should be titled "Things I never knew....'Cause he never told me."
In the letter it speaks of how he just got a splint taken off his index finger. Apparently this guy on the Navy team (Baseball) had hit a foul ball which bounced off the tip of my fathers index finger and broke it. The letter then says that "at least I (my father) got hit by a real athlete. A guy named Roger Staubach, whom had won the Heisman trophy". Well now I know that Roger Staubach broke my Fathers finger with a baseball in Vietnam....I never knew!

Some family history is just amazing!

On a similar note, I received my parents wedding photo from January 1946.
Of the 8 family members in the photo; three aunts, one uncle, parents and both maternal grandparents, only one of them are alive today (aunt)

For me the great part of the photo is the vision of my grandmother.
As I was the last of six grandkids born, I only remember her as an old woman.
To see her as a much younger woman with a big and slighlty mischievious smile on her face is just priceless.

Jeff

P.S. my one remaining aunt just celebrated wedding anniversary #65. Her husband, my uncle was "not invited", turns out they were dating, but on the hush-hush.

Da Nang, South Vietnam, October, 1966: Navy Ensign Roger Staubach, a Heisman Trophy winner while playing at the U.S. Naval Academy, tosses a football during a break from his duties as officer-in-charge of both the Personal Effects Division of the Naval Support Activity and a petroleum-oil-lubricant site on the outskirts of Da Nang. After leaving the Navy, Staubach enjoyed a Hall of Fame career with the Dallas Cowboys.
