"Hi, I have an all original 67 Z28 - if you're interested"
That was part of a conversation I had with my Dad yesterday. Haha, I have to admit that I was very interested. I've owned EVERY year 1st generation Camaro but the 67 was not a Z, the 68 and 69s were. I owned several 70.5 Z28s and numerous other model years.
He got the car in question and a few other vehicles as payment for a LONG outstanding bill for cropdusting services. I was excited and figured on picking this thing up early next week, my Dad is in NC. He confirmed from the previous owner that the car was ALL original and he was the first and only owner.
So as you can imagine, I'm on the phone to my Dad asking questions about condition of the interior, paint, and how it sounds. That's when my dreams were shattered. After hearing it sounds ok and the condition is about an 8, I make an observation. I say how cool it is to have a Camaro with the vent windows ..... after about 30 seconds I get a WTH are you talking about. I say, look at the doors they have a crank up window and the vent window at the front. I hear, nope.
WHAT A DIFFERENCE 10 YEARS makes --- it's not a 67 it's a 77.
Well I don't give a rats azz about a 77 Z28 so now my cousin is the proud owner of a nice low mileage Z. My heart is broken and my dad being a FORD guy says, "what's your problem, this one is newer"! It would have been a huge score if it had been a 67.
Yeah, that sucks. I guess you win some, you loose some. If he is giving it to you, heck, I'd take it. The 77's are kinda cool. Not as cool as a 67 for sure, but still sorta cool. I'd rather have a Trans Am of those years if I could choose though.

Haha, thankfully I won't looking for one or this would have been more of a loss. I'll get over it in ten years or so. My Dad is 91 so he's entitled to a few screw ups.
I've really been looking out for a vintage modified. It's hard to find a 36/37 Chevy that's not paper thin from rust or crushed from rotted out wood. I can still find back in the day chassis parts and motors. Hmm, I should get back to work on the 33 to take away some of the pain.

I owned a 77 Z28 and it was barely good transportation. My favorite Camaro, I owned for about 12 years. It was a 70 1/2 nonRS 4spd Z28. I bought it from the original owner who purchased it when he came back from Vietnam. The two boys scuffing my paint for the picture are now 27 and 29. The second picture is after it retired from street use and became a bracket racer. The boys were in HS for that shot.
Crappy scan of a crappy Polaroid. Why didn't I take more pictures back then.

The last good Z28 that the made in the 70's was a 74. After that the engines were the same ones you got in a station wagon...
Love the modifieds!!!!
Yep, I really liked the 70s the best. I would have loved having a 67. Very rare and if all original it would have had a small journal 302. It was too good to be true.

Beautiful car. And bride too. If you could only keep one or the other, you made the right choice.
At least your car made it to the wedding. My '69 Boss 302 was stolen from one of my bachelor parties. Rilla went ahead with the wedding anyway. She has an '01 Mustang right now but is expecting me to build her a '69 Boss clone soon. LOL
