Other than the torch and fireworks, it was lame. You nailed McCartney.

I liked the symbolism of many flames coming together to be one. The Queen skydiving with James Bond was pretty cool.

It was the ACTUAL Queen of England interacting with James Bond. It was a stunt double who did the skydive however. Probably the same for Bond (Daniel Craig) too.

Aging rockers aren't a pretty sight - other than that, it was a decent enough show.

The James Bond / Queen thing was cool. Show was a bit left leaning for me. The cool thing about the McCartney part as I told my 12 yr old daughter was, here is a song that is almost 45 years old and the whole world knows it. All of those athletes on the field weren't even born when the song was released. Of course not a lot of intricate lyrics to know in the sing along but still interesting I thought.

The entire opening ceremony sucked. England should be completely ashamed of that fiasco.

If an 86 year old woman is one of the highlights of your program you're in really bad shape.

China showed the world how to put on an Olympic scale show. No wonder 3 out of 4 products are "Made in China"! They are clearly operating at a much higher level than the rest of the world, America included. Human rights suck...but they are clearly the new world leader in technology, creativity, and pretty much everything else. Yes, they sell some crappy products. But who keeps buying that crap. We do. That's why they are geniuses at what they do. Absolutely brilliant marketing.

After this fiasco I can see why the early settlers left for Plymouth Rock. England needs to turn off the lights and shut the damn door. Shame.

I couldn't disagree more...all of "their" technology is a copy from years of out sourcing there...heck they just bought a Russian aircraft carrier hull to outfit and reverse engineer, they lead in almost zero technologies..they are an example of what can be done with unlimited slave labor...just sayin

Bragging or complaining .....?

(Based on most of what I saw of the Opening Ceremonies - esp. McCartney who sounded terrible - I'd go with bragging ....)

Most of it was pretty good although I wish they'd get rid of Matt Lauer.

The lighting of the torch in Barcelona is still at the top of the list for me.

The fireworks were pretty spectacular.

I have to agree on the most part. They either reverse engineer it or just plain outright steal it. They haven't come up with a new techonology of their own in who knows how long.

Didn't watch it, don't feel I missed anything.

All-time best moment for me in terms of opening ceremonies was when Ali lit the torch in Atlanta. Just thinking about that gives me chills.

Having Ali light the torch was very fitting but the way the flame rode up the cable was cheesy. A couple of times it appeared to hang up.
The Barcelona lighting was the best, one shot, make it or not. Can you imagine the pressure that guy was feeling?

I liked the music performed when they were carrying the flame around the stadium...the combination of the children's choir and Alex Trimble was very good.

I also thought the boat with Beckham was cool.
