Same here. I've been curious about them since I first heard of them here a couple years ago. The daughter was asking if she could access our DVR from school and I think this would be the only way...
Or I could ship the thing to someone in a different market with NFL Sunday Ticket and they could broadcast the inevitable blacked-out Cincinnati Bengals games for me. And/or I could do the same for them. Anybody in Tampa? You guys can't sell a game out either. I did hear the NFL dropped the requirement down to 85% sold...

I can't remember the last time a Cowboy game was blacked out, many years ago. Even with the new stadium, no blackouts and all the games certainly haven't sold out. I'm not exactly sure what's going on with that. Many years ago I seem to remember them saying that such and such person bought the remaining tickets just so it could be broadcast, but that was a long time ago.
That's what used to happen here as well, but the Bengals have milked those people for far too long and for far too much. Just like they did this 10 year season ticket holder...I will NEVER go to another Bengals game again until the Brown family in its entirety is OUT. That's what my avatar is all about...a small variation on the Cincy T-Shirts worn when the Cleveland Browns come to town.
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr....I'm ranting.
Back On Topic: Tell us about your Slingbox. Joe and I want to know.

I've had a HD slingbox and a slingplayer now for several years. Originally used the slingplayer to feed my dvd, TIVO and cable box to a TV in my kitchen. The picture and sound are fine, but I've since moved the slingplayer to my upstairs office. No problem with the picture, but since this is a streamed feed, everything runs several seconds behind the live feed. OK if your tvs and rooms are far enough apart, but since there's only about 20 feet between my den and kitchen tv, the sound delay was driving us crazy.
I'm in sales, spend a lot of time on the road and in hotels. The slingbox allows me to watch my TIVO'd shows or catch local news or sports wherever I am. Is it perfect - no. Picture quality depends on the bandwidth that's available, which is always chancy when you're on the road.

I'm currently on Expat assignment in Europe. My friend has Slingbox HD and has used it from my place. We can watch anything in full HD no problem from here but he has trouble in his place (network bandwidth issue at temporary accomodations).
He upgraded his home upload bandwidth to (I think) 3MB. He says that was key for things to work this far away. I have to take his word on that part, but quality is great.
I can't wait to get home so I can get a box for myself.

if i have full cable services at one location....as long as i have wireless access i can view TV on my ipad or computer ?....the reason i ask is i can't get F1 or Nascar races when i go away on a weekend ...would something like this allow me to see TNT ...or ESPN , or SPEED network ....at another location?
Okay so I am sending one to Joe so I can watch all the Cowboys games here in NJ, we probably get about half of them normally, but the whole season would be great :-)

That's correct...and you can use them to access your Tuner/DVR and the unit then "slings" that broadcast to you via the WWW.

I'm not positive, but it sounds like you need good bandwidth on both ends. I have crappy DSL here at my house, so I have a feeling I would have issues even if I find plenty of bandwidth while on the road..
We've had ours for a couple of years. Works great. We travel quite a bit during the baseball season, and the wife wanted to watch her "shows" from the road. She can access all of the channels on uverse plus any show she has tivod. The only thing I can think of as a problem, I stayed home one trip for work. The slingbox controls the reciever the box is hooked to. If you don't want to watch the same shows, you will need to move to another tv. Would definitely recommend it.
I have the Dishnetwork Sat. reciever with built in slingbox. Works fairly well does definetly depend on bandwidth. When I use it it looks the same as sitting at home as far as interface. Can watch my DVR or live tv from any channel I subscribe to. Since sat box has two tuners one is used for slingbox and other is for tv, I can watch something different than what is on the TV at the same time. I have used it to catch parts of shows when stuck somewhere. Never watched alot on it because I use my phone and screen is too small.
Slingbox has been up and running for a month and my daughter and her roommate couldn't be happier.
I opted for the Slingbox Solo which does not stream HD, but I hear no complaints. She has complete control of a DVR in my home from her location...including both live TV and recorded content.
Cool stuff...
I bought it from Woot.com for $100 and included a pair of SlingLink Turbo boxes for sending internet access from one to the other through your electric line. Haven't tried those out yet as I haven't had a use for them yet...
If you have DirecTV there are now several options to watch shows away from your house. I used to have to take a box with me to the marina, but now they have on demand on the laptop, and a thing called Nomad and a few other choices. Netflix is carrying a lot of stuff now too on te old Xbox....No need for slingbox for me.....

We do have Direct and I find their on demand to be lacking to say the least.
We also have Netflix and I struggle to find a movie in their selection worth streaming.
An to top it off, we have an Amazon Prime account which apparently includes streaming similar to Netflix's offerings...but I haven't checked it out yet. If it's as good or better like I have heard, we will be cancelling our Netflix.

Totally agree. I cancelled the streaming side of my subscription back when they lost a large chunk of their catalog and had the whole "Qwikster" mess where they tried to separate the two. I just get DVDs in the mail now. The only thing I haven't been able to get came up in a thread here recently -- "Boys of Bonneville." Apparently Netflix has it as streaming-only, no hard media.

I also have Amazon Prime. I haven't examined their streaming catalog exhaustively, but given that Netflix lost most of its good catalog, Amazon's almost has to be as good or better. (It has all the BBC Top Gear seasons, anyway!) I can say this -- on the same devices at the same location, my experience is that the Amazon streaming is considerably higher quality than Netflix. Better image/resolution, fewer digital crack-ups or pixelation, faster start-ups and fewer pauses for caching, etc. It's definitely worth tinkering around with in some free time, though I find I don't often utilize it. For reference, I am streaming wirelessly through a Sony Blu-Ray player to a Toshiba LED TV, with a cable broadband connection.
Cheers, John

I bought a sling box a month or so ago. I can't really use it because time warner restricts my upload speed to 1mbs. I think if you have a upload speed of 2mbs or more you should be fine. Most broadband companys offer atleast 10mbs download speed. So most of the problems with these units would be on the sending end.
