Was this the shop off of the 680 between the bridge and fairfield? Edit: Just looked it up and that's the one.
If so, I've been in that shop a few times. Lot's of beautiful muscle cars and old race cars. I think most of their inventory is on consigment. Last time I was there, they had a nice SPF in there for sale at a decent price. Almost drove out with it.
Sad to hear of this but it sounds like he was a little more than overzealous with the right foot. That and not wearing a seat belt?

"A news release said the man was driving recklessly and was speeding when he lost control and hit a concrete Dumpster enclosure at the rear of the building. It appeared he was not wearing a seat belt, authorities said."
You can't fix stupid. I feel sorry for the guy's family and the owner of the dealership. Insurance rates just went up for a business during a hard economy. I'd wager the owner won't let any of the employees drive one of the cars ever again.

While this is a tragedy, it was preventable. My prayers go out to his family.
So, does this dealership beat the heck out of all their cars or just the really cool ones? I won't be buying from them.

It Was a nice looking FF.
I wouldn't buy it knowing someone died in it.
Apparently he was ejected,(?) so technically he didn't die "in" it....as well he actually died later at the hospital..
If those are the skid marks, perhaps the car snapped completely sideways, and parallel to the wall, after the front left impacted the wall. Back end came around in other words... Hard to say from that picture..
If that is the point of rest, he may have smacked that concrete wall sideways. If that were the case, the harness would have done little good at all..
I would think the harness would have at least kept him inside the car which should have prevented his head from impacting the wall
If those tire friction marks are from him (I don't think they are) it would indicate he went nose first into the wall?? No sign of damage to the hood, windshield etc...

Exactly.. If he was "ejected" it was a short distance from the seat to the wall.. Don't think the harness would have done much good anyway. I can hang my head out over the side of the door while buckled in, unless I'm really strapped in tight and I doubt many people wear their harness that tight, except for maybe when on the track.
This news story says "significant front end damage".
Whether or not he was wearing a seat belt is irrelevant. He was driving carelessly near a building in a vehicle he didn't own while it was for sale at a company he didn't own. I'm sure if he hadn't died in the accident, the owner of the dealership would have killed him. I doubt the owner lets his employees trash the vehicles before they are sold.

Gosh. I don't know what to say. I hate to speak ill of the dead, but my gosh. This was just stupid stupid stupid.
I've seen how far belts stretch and how much a person's head moves in an accident and this guy wasn't even belted. He might not have even been ejected to have bashed his head on that wall.
And doing some type of performance driving when your ass isn't planted firmly? You can't control a car when you're flailing around.
All I can say is, my gosh. Some family is making funeral arrangements today who thought this day was far far out in the future somewhere. What a shame.

Sounds like more than one idiot was involved in this accident. I retract my sympathy for the owner of the company. Sounds like this happened on his watch and with his knowledge and lack of oversight, precaution, etc. This wasn't simply an employee going for a joyride as we all thought it was. This accident is a whole different level of stupidity.
