UNITED AIRLINES???? It is just a name. They don't actually run an airline company. It is just a bunch of loons running around pretending to run an airline.
I was going to Las Vegas earlier this year and had a nice flight schedule lined up. Boy was I wrong. Got to the Knoxville airport for the early flight out to Chicago. Waited, waited, waited........ no one at the gate 30 minutes before departure, no one at the gate 10 minutes before departure. Other passengers for other United flights out of the same gate are arriving. Their departure time grows near and still no one around. Finally someone goes back through security to the ticket counter to find out what the heck is happening. Seems there are no pilots for what is now 3 plane loads of passengers. Keep in mind, there are 3 planes sitting outside the window but no pilots to fly them.
Finally all the pilots show up and we are ready to board 1 1/2 hours later than planned. Once we arrive in Chicago, I sprint to my gate and even though the plane is still sitting there, they have closed the gate 1 minute earlier so I miss that flight. Go to another gate to try to fly standby and lucky for me, I get on this flight........ I think.
We board the flight for Las Vegas and everyone gets their luggage stowed and seat belts fastened then............WAIT

We sit for 20 minutes waititng before the flight attendant announces that we DON'T HAVE A PILOT for this plane. WTH????? We are in Chicago for pete's sake. Home of United Airlines. And they don't have a PILOT????? The flight attendant tells me that they don't know where the pilot is or who is supposed to be the pilot. WTH????? Finally we get an announcement that a pilot that was in the parking lot on his way home was located and is coming back to fly our plane to Las Vegas. He should be here in around 20 more minutes. But wait children, there is more to this story.......
The pilot finally arrives and we back out of the gate. As we begin our taxi out to the runway we suddenly come to a halt. A few minutes later, we begin turning around and heading towards the gate. Seems that in the final check, a seat on the last row of the airplane would not lock in the upright position so we must go back for repairs. Grrrrrrrrrrr..... We arrive at the gate and are told that it could take upwards of an hour to get this seat fixed, but we are not unloading the plane. Around 20 minutes pass before we get a mechanic to the plane. He says that he can repair the seat in an hour or put a pin in the seat to hold it in the locked upright position in 5 minutes. Finally, someone at United Airlines with a reasonable solution. Everyone around him is telling him to just put a damn pin in the seat so we can go. Needless to say, I didn't make my intended destination anywhere close to what was scheduled.
I am not one to sweat the small stuff, but when an airline cannot schedule pilots for airplanes, well that is a horse of a different color. Rant over.
