I heard the Canadian Ballet is something you'd enjoy Leo
Bwahahahahah! I never thought I'd see anyone refer to that on this board. You guys never cease to amaze me.
Seriously... when are you planning on being here Leo? I use "here" loosely since I'm in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario. Any plans to cross the border? Fellow board member, Todd Baumann, made the trip a few years back. You might want to send him a PM. Will this be a road trip in the roadster?

PLACES TO AVOID (aka rip off tourist traps)... The Mystery Spot Ok, if you're curious and don't mind wasting some time and money. Sea Shell City Not in the U.P. but on the way.

Mark hit the nail on the head, he has the inside track even though he is on the north side of the border.
But you need to look at the Pictured Rock National Park also. Lots of great trails and views. Take one of the boat rides and you can really see the great rock cliffs and colors.
Check out the water and go for a swim if you think you are man enough.

I forgot about Pictured Rock. Great spot.
Swimming in Superior? We do it, but lets just say it never really warms up, it just gets less cold.

The Tourist Park Campground in Marquette offers nice value with hookups. Less than 1 mile to lake. Also in Marquette right next to the power plant is a nice beach that you can swim at depending on the wind.
Copper Harbor is a long hike up the Kewaunee Penisula. Spectacular view if you hike to the top of Mount Bohemia.
I have not been in years, but Abner's in Sault Ste Marie, Mi. had the best breakfast in the whole U.P.. If you are looking for the "canadian ballet" the crossing at Windsor has more choices. Rent "Escanaba In Da Moonlight" (a true documentary) before you decide to make the trip.
Edit: the light station at Whitefish Point has great beach, view, fishing and if your brave swimming. Plus lots of history on Mi. Lighthouses.

If you have time to kill, Take 41,in the Keweenaw peninsula, to Copper Harbour and keep going east. Go past Fort Wilkins State park. The road goes from paved, to dirt, to 2 track(not too bad). Some very nice hikes to the lake along the way. I got quite a ways in my 2WD RX330.

The St. Ignace car show for us was very unique if the dates match up.
Phillip, I remember seeing your car there. My son picked it our from a mile away, saying, "Look Dad. A Factory Five!" I talked to your wife while you were off wandering the show.
It's a week later than normal this year. Usually it's the same weekend as the London show, so not many Cobras show up. Just a couple locals. Hopefully there will be more this year.

Oh, Oh, Oh.
I forgot to mention the Petosky Stones. A Michigan must see search on the beach. It took me a while to realize the you needed to get down in the water and turn over the "wet" stones to make the search easier. I wish I had collected more.
Mark, I was telling Kay last evening about your post. She has seen a lot of excited folks over the past 10 years asking about MARIAH and FF. But she said, by far, you and your son were the MOST EXCITED she had ever seen. I still remember my exposure at the Charlotte Motor Speedway back in 2000 how my heart was just a thumping as I looked at the FFRs, talked to those there and finally made my decision. Keep the faith. There is a season for everything, even an FFR.

Hey Mark,
The St. Ignace car show is this weekend coming up. We are going to come up sometime Thursday and be up through Sunday. If you are able we could hook up for dinner or lunch on day. I will give you a shout also and see what you are up to.
Todd

Ya, we don't often see FFRs at the St. Ignace show, and having done build school, Jake and I were pretty pumped to see MARIAH there. And don't worry, the dream is still alive and burning. Kids school is almost all paid off, so garage build could begin next spring. The light at the end of the tunnel IS NOT an oncoming train.

Excellent! Jake and I were originally planning on going to the show Saturday afternoon. Sent you a PM. Give me a call.

If you want real beer, you'll have to come to our side of the street. Our regular retail stuff starts at 5.5% alc/vol. However, you'll have to go to "The Beer Store". Not sold in convenience or grocery stores around here.

Immediately after going through Canada Customs, take a right out the south exit. Go west (back towards the bridge) 1/2 block. There you'll find Studio 10.

no ballet for me my wife and 14 year old daughter will be with me, so there is no way of skippin out, plus i will be staying stateside, never got a pass-port re-done, and there is no time for a new one.
now theres always that venue of sneakin them across the border and they just happen to be on the lake where i am fishingkinda of like a private lake dance
i am thinkin a week of some fishin, hikin, maybe some tracking, if i find the right tracks. and of course sitting around a good campfire with a cold beer and my family if i can get them out of the camper.
i do want to check out the water, and i am not affraid of cold water. been in the river here when its been below 0, wasn't my choice but i had to jump in to grab some guy that freaked when his canoe rolled on a log. it was 5 below and the water was warmer than the air.
i would imagine its like swimming in a spring up there now

Go over the bridge, take a day and check our the island. Head west and pull over along the way and hit one of the beaches that just appear. Find a little old motel on the side of the same road and enjoy life the way it used to be. And have a pastie for dinner.

an elevator mechanic told me today about this guy up that way that built things out of wood so intricate it resembled trees apparently a gun safe made to look like a tree, the bearings made of wood to support it and doors in the building that were so cool.
anyone know of this place?
me being an almost old carpenter would love to check this out
