To add to the fun of the officiating, how about the blatant interference pick play by Couture (I think) to set up the goal for the Sharks in 2ot. That was nice.
I disagree. I think the inital contact by Weber on Zetterberg was a shove, but his second reaction was to reach out and put his hand on the back of Z's head and beat it against the glass WWE 'turnbuckle' style!
No apparent injury doesn't excuse the leagues lax attitude towards something it claims to be taking seriously (head shots). Cowardly if you ask me. No balls to possibly influence a series outcome by sitting a key player like Weber. He didn't have any qualms about suspending the Canucks Bitz for 2 games for an aggressive, high check that mashed an LA player's head against the boards (no injury either). While Bitz isn't as important to his team as Weber, Weber does have at least one other fine relating to head shots previously, Bitz has nothing!!! I'm not excusing what Bitz did. He came in high and hard and the head was hit. I just don't like superstars being held to a lower standard.

I just think if you give a suspension for a play like that, you open the door for a lot of stuff.
Im not sure if you have ever played hockey (not a dig, just really dont know ) but 10x worse things happen then that in most scrums. Sticks accidentally rub faces, face washing (rubbing your glove in someones face which hurts more than it looks) and pushing faces into ice, post, other players.
Im not sure if you have ever played hockey (not a dig, just really dont know )...
I think (Weber hitting Zetterberg's head) was more stupid than it was dangerous.
We are going to have to agree to disagree on this. Fair enough.
I don't think this specific act was as dangerous as the message it sends. Big name players get a free one and the league is just playing lip service to their enforcement of rules regarding hits to the head.
I have played hockey since I was old enough to skate, still do. I have my coaching certificate and helped coach all my (now 15 year old) son's various teams for the last 10 years. I'm a season ticket holder for our local WHL team and go to as many NHL games as time and my travel schedule will allow. I've never been an upper echelon player at any level, but I get that competitive hockey has always included plenty of rough stuff between whistles that is part of the flavor of the game.
My beef is that all the league's talking about getting tough on head shots is just talk. Unless you're a role player who only plays a few minutes a night. Then, it seems they can afford to make an example of you .

Agreed. I do have to say I saw it live and my first thought was suspension.
Didn't take long for Detroit to send there message to Mr. Webber that his on ice actions from game one weren't going to be tolerated . Yes , i know it was not much of a fight but i think the message was loud and clear . Every time there was an opportunity to lay a check on Webber it was delivered with a little extra gusto ! At one point in the third period ( i think ) the camera panned the Nashville bench and caught a shot of Webber doubled over in pain . Hes one hell of a player so Detroit needs to keep him in check . Hope i didn't put Bullet hole to sleep again ! hee hee
I can't bwlieve these playoffs so far, some crazy games so far. But as I thought everything seems to be up for grabs.
Philly/Pitt. wow what a couple of games. Talk about scoring. 7 goals game 1, 13 game two.
LA just putting the Canucks in there place for now, President's Trophy Jinx?
Florida's strong and making it tough for NJ.
I don't think that there is any clear cut team to go all the way yet.
Glad Det. came out and showed Nashville that even though they do not have an enforcer any more that the crap from Weber wasn't going to stand. Wish Bert would have gotten the better of him but I think the message was sent good enough. But overall Howard stood on his head the first 10 min to keep them in the game to go on and win in the end.
Man sure is some awesome hockey so far, God I love playoff hockey!!!!

Todd, I agree...Wow that Pit/ Philly is fast hockey ...I flip the channel and the other games seem slow in comparison ........Canucks needed to make a goaltender change 2 years ago ....double overtime today Bost/ Wash
man o man greatttttttttttttttttttttttt hockeyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

Oh boy. If the Bruins can't find the offense it's going to be a short playoffs. On the other hand, Washington can't keep baby sitting the goalie every game. Bruins need to score early to get Washington to open up.
Predators took it to the wings in the 1st period and set the tone for the rest of the game. Wings could not take advantage with there power play and repeatedly gave up scoring chances in there end of the rink by giving the puck away under pressure and with sloppy clearing passes ! With out naming names they have some defense men that need to take a long look in the locker room mirror and decide to step up there game and stop avoiding contact ! Granted they are only down one game but i see the next game as a must win ! I watched both games last night to get my hockey fix and boy there are some epic battles being waged around the league ! I love playoff hockey !!!!
It has been some great hockey for sure! Still can't believe how the Pens/Flyers series has gone. Both in terms of the number of goals scored and the result. Surprising.
I'd be pleasantly surprised if the Canucks had enough in the tank to mount a 4-0 streak right now... LA's goaltender is in their head though. Although both Vancouver keepers have played pretty well (except on perhaps 1-2 goals), Quick just isn't giving up enough second chances for the Vancouver muckers to take advantage. The Kings have had a lot of talent on the roster for a while now, especially since the trade deadline. During the regular season they just couldn't seem to get all that talent to play like a team. Looks like the challenge of matching up against the #1 ranked Canucks has really worked to get them to all pull on the rope at the same time.
Hey Kiwi! You know what, your Panthers are a pretty hard working team. They sure aren't getting much respect from the press though! Teams like that often seem to work their way to the top if they can get a few breaks.
Still enjoying watching, even if my team is on the brink of golfing.

Well almost on life support. Maybe two days off will do them some good . Down 3 games to 1 certainly isn't a position of strength but maybe having there backs against the wall will wake up there offensive ability . They are far better a team than they have shone but the Predators have the hot goalie and are riding him like rented mule . Its not " impossibly " but it may just be to big of a whole to dig out of .
Hey Sean, Whew the Hawks live another day lolololololol.........Was a beautiful goal by Toews in overtime ........Good luck to you tonite with the Canucks on deck .......Do or Die............Darc
Bruins are not looking good. Thomas has been suspect the past few games and the offense is sputtering at best. I have a feeling it's over today for them but still throwing support at them Holtby has their number.
Godd to see Nashville move on. Hope the predators do too.
This playoff season is insane! Crapitals taking Boston to Game 7; Rangers having difficulty with Ottawa, Canucks drop to the Kings, Penguins fall to the Flyers (ridiculous series - no goaltender better than .84 save pct!!!), Red Wings look completely disinterested and fall to Nashville...
Tons of action every night, no predictability... great postseason! Well, except for those of us whose beloved teams have already punched their vacation tickets
See Sean,
I warned you about that President's cup jinx.
I hate to say it but I am afraid that my boys are going to need to find a bunch of good players to come back up to the top in the next few years. I believe that Lidstrom and Homer are going to retire and Lidstrom is the rock of this team. I think you are going to see some years similar to that in the 80's, but I hope not.
Love to see the Pens out. Boston better watch out also, Caps are going to rain on thier parade. It is so crazy. But then again I told you so.
What a season eh.

Well I'm gonna hop on the Nashville bandwagon now. Don't know what happened with the nucks, but it seemed like a completely different team took to the ice once the playoffs started.
Man o man ....My Hawks ran into a very hot goalie ......Congrats to the Phoenix Coyotes ..........Having been a Hawks fan since 1964 (my first team i played for as a kid) i'm not a bandwagon jumper .......but i will watch for the shear love of the game .........I hope Toews goes to play for Canada now ........Good Luck to all the teams that are still alive ............Darc
Wow! What a first round! Topsy-turvy results kind of what Todd predicted, anybody's capable of winning it all this year!
I was concerned about how the Canucks would fare against a strong LA team given how they were playing lately, but I never expected to see Detroit, Chicago, Pittsburgh and Boston all to be gone in the first round as well. Even the Rangers are hanging by a thread now.
I still think St. Louis is going to be tough for any team to beat in any 4 win series.

Los Angeles looks ridiculous. They looked like they were skating 10 players to the Blues' 5 last night. I don't know how an 8th seed pulls that off, sandbaggers maybe?
In the east I'm pulling for the Devils now that the Penguins choked and died. I'd like to see Brodeur get another cup. I can't stand Tortorella or Dale Hunter, and the Flyers, well, any team from Philly
