Just saw this movie tonight. Very nice production and very inspiring. It was an amazing history of how racing started at the Bonneville salt flats here in Utah. I highly recommend it!!!

I thought the coolest part of the documentary was about how he discovered the salt flats as an ideal place for racing. It was some time after the turn of the century and he drove his motorcycle over the railroad tracks and cross country to get out there, there were no roads then. Then drove his motorcycle as fast as he could take it all alone miles from any help or services. Talk about determination!
This was a particularly hilarious bit by Gordon Eliot White...
I delved into that to find out more, and discovered that Ab also raced Allis-Chalmers tractors at the same time Oldfield had – starting on October 17, 1933, in Dallas, and continuing at county fairs in 1934. However, White enumerates a number of Jenkins’ further record attempts in 1935 and 1936 on the salt flats, during which Jenkins set a 68 MPH record. Afterward, White writes, “Jenkins likened his tractor record run to ‘riding a frightened bison.’”

Is it available as streaming-only on Netflix? When I search for it by title, I don't come up with the movie anywhere. I dumped my streaming subscription back during the Qwikster debacle, around the time Netflix lost the licenses on most of their decent streaming content. Now I just have the disc subscription. Bummer that I can't find this -- I think it's the first time that has happened to me in many years of Netflix membership! Am I somehow searching wrong?!?
Cheers, John

Looks like its only available on streaming Netflix. It's in my streaming instant queue, I did a general search by title on the Netflix site and it didn't come up. Kinda weird. Still in my instant queue though...

Just watched it. It's there, punch up "boys of" and it comes up in search.
I've done 860 miles straight thru in 14hrs. Like the movie says, doing 2000 in 24 without a relief driver is something else.
I couldn't cite which records, but the Daytona Coupe run in November 1965 was the capstone of what Ab Jenkins did - with the last handbuilt cars used in racing, setting 23 time and distance records. One of it's drivers was Craig Breedlove.
watched it on the flight home Saturday, really cool movie. I never realized they did anything in the salt other then straight line speed records, I can't even imagine trying to stay on that 'track' for 24 hours at a time. Crazy but cool for sure.
As for rental, I got it from Amazon, they have it on demand there and also as a download through the unbox player.
