Lost my license...How to get a new ID out of state?

So, I lost my license a few days ago (ok, I lied, two weeks ago), and I've been driving without it since.
Out of state.

Last night, came home at 3AM, had a TV in the side seat (LAN at a friends...), so I was holding on to it. Shifting + holding on to a TV + steering = somewhat difficult, so I was a bit slow to accelerate (55 on the 5 maybe half a mile after I got on. Right hand lane though.) Police officer pulled me over, asked for X, Y, Z...had some of it naturally, but no ID with me. At all. Had my insurance card, credit cards...but no photo ID. He said he could arrest me on the spot for not having an ID, but didn't feel like it. Told me to head to the DMV and get a replacement ID--reiterated that I couldn't, I'm out of state...he told me they will give government-issued IDs.

Looked it up on the DMV's website. Nada. Found a form that I can send to the BMV in Indiana, but it'll take a week before they give me the letter saying I'm allowed to drive. And even then, no photo.

So...anyone have any ideas what paperwork I need to file/where?
Thanks!
-Trevor

EDit: Dug a bit more, found it:

Unfortunately, it will take up to 60 days to mail.
Hrm...

Switch residency to the new state? Not much to do to help ya other than say I used to always have two id's with me at school. One as a spare and one to keep on me. The spare was my old one, figured it was better than nothing.

Did you lose (as in - can't find it) or was it revoked for some reason?

The cop that stopped you can query driver records from any state; once he confirms you have a valid license, you should be good to go. You could ask him for the license number to ease the transaction next time you get stopped. You need to get a reissue from your home state.

He is wrong about arresting you for not having an ID...you aren't required to have one in this country. You have to produce a driver license if you are driving, but he has resources to confirm that.

On the other hand, if your driver license was revoked, don't even try to get one in another state. It is a crime and the results will be distasteful for you!

Good Luck,

Terry

As of Dec. 31, 2007 all states are required to send Drivers Lic status updates to a federal data base center where all other states can access to determine driving eligibility.

just happened to me that an unpaid parking ticket in 1984 in the state of Nevada put a stop on my Driver License renewal her in California last month! i've had a CA Drivers License since 1986 when i moved here and have renewed it ever 4 years since. i had to take care of the ticket, and pay a "reinstatement" fee to Nevada to get the release on my CA drivers License.

not sure there's a way around it anymore...

Good Luck!

You know as soon as you get another, you'll find the original.

+1 I lost my wallet in the parking lot of an Auto Shack (just before it became AutoZone) and it was returned to me. It arrived 18 hours after I got my new license.

Stolen at a rave, along with my credit card. Credit card had $200 in gas charges the next day. Cancelled at 12PM (14 hours after losing it.)

Good choice of action Trevor...usually at 3AM, good choices evade what your brain wants to say!

Try this...go to the DMV in the state you are currently "raving" in and ask them to check your license status in your home state. See if they will print out the results for you to carry until you can obtain a re-issue at home. If that doesn't work, find a local cop, cry your heart out and see if he can accomplish the same task. (Don't do this at 3AM!)

Terry

Around here all you need is a police report and they'll give another license at the courthouse.

You can do it online in NC, and then they send it to your registered address... you can also change the address , so that it goes to your folks....

Broke mine in half and new one came 3 days later

$200 in gas? With today's prices, that may only get them a block from the gas station!

ps- Tiesto rules!

Indeed he does. At EDC (a few weeks ago) Benny Bennasi, Paul van Dyk, Moby, and several others were playing. One of the coolest nights of my life. Really wish Tiesto would've come.

Went to another small rave (by small I mean 5,000!) last night. Unfortunately, someone broke in to the car (picked the lock, too. Locked it back up and made sure everything was nice and neat afterwards), stole 4 wallets, a few hundred in cash, 2 cell phones, an iPod, some misc. A&F clothing among other random items. Luckily, I had my CCs with me... friends didn't get out so lucky. Thief hit the jackpot...At least he didn't get my drivers license though!

Trevor, It seriously sounds like you need to quit going to so many parties. Maybe that would cut down the amount of stuff stolen from you.

And why in the heck are you leaving four wallets full of cash, ipod, cell phones, etc., sitting in your car?

Might as well leave it unlocked and put a sign on it saying "FREE MONEY INSIDE"!

And remind me why you go to these raves when things just seem to get stolen?

I'm not going to defend the activity. It's something I enjoy, and I'm pegging the car break-in as a one-off event, not a common occurrence. The credit card the first time around was my fault for not keeping a closer eye on my things.

Trevor:
Unless I'm mistaken, you are running a bread and breakfast in San Clemente, right? If you are working in the state, you are supposed to get a California license anyway, why not just get a California license? You must have a local address.

By the way, I'l try to stop by sometime to say "hi." You are by the Cabrillo Playhouse, right?
