I do not have a GTM even on order yet, but was wondering if there would be room to fit in a small sub box? By small probably just around .5 sq. feet. I was thinking there might be room in the passenger footwell, or would that take away too much? Any advice is appreciated. Thank you.

You have to make a foundation mold and it will work, I put an 8" Rockford fosgate sub in the pass foot well w/ a kicker 300watt amp under the dash to power it.I still have plenty of foot room. It takes some planning on paper first, but is do-able!!! Other than that location, there is not much else you can do. I plan to also reshape the dash to fit a double Din and maybe install the tweeters there, keeping the doors for the mids. The gtm is a great canvas to play around with, more so if you like to fiberglass!!!

you might be able to make something work with the engine cover!! (Like FORD GT) Though it maybe to close to your head! Everyone likes a little bass, but no that close. As for the tunnel, I'm thinking the magnet will interfer with the shifter and linkage.

Alright, cool, thank you. I was kind of hoping I could fit in a 12" but that may be a bit of a challenge I guess. I am rather weak with fiberglass but my cousin has made a few boats with them so I can probably get some help from him. It is good to know its possible. Once I buy the car, start and then finish it, I am sure it'll be another fun project to work on. Quite far in the future though. Thanks!

If you can find the space you need an absolute minimum of 1 cubic foot for a 12 inch subwoofer. At 1 cubic foot you'd need a sealed box, no ports. Most reputable audio shops will be able to give you specific air space requirements for subs. Not all 12" subs will work well with only 1 cube, best to check with a local knowledgable dealer.

I'm thinking 12" maybe over kill for the tiny cockpit of the gtm. It'll prohably rattle the needle's in the gauges.. and your teeth

Right now I have 350 watts going to a 12 in my MINI, so I figure that's pretty close. Hey, I am young, might a well abuse my hearing before I lose it. :-P But you're right. The GTM is even smaller, perhaps a 10 would be a better investment. Clearer as well.

I tend to agree with that has been said, but 1cf is NOT the absolute min. There are several small-box woofers out there and even many slim woofers that might be perfect for the job.

I haven't been in the audio game for about a year, but lemme do some research and I'll find something we might all be happy with.

I think a 12" is over kill. I have a 8" in my truck and it sounds killer. I'm thinking of a 10" why not? How about in the tunnel next to the back wall between the seats? I saw a new ovel sub someone is making now. It was in Chutchfield catalog. What do you guys think?

Here is something I think will fit the bill very nicely. Its a pretty good sounding woofer according to reports I've read. It also doesn't need just a whole lot of power.

It does seem to look slim, however, the Infinity Kappa Perfect 10 inch only requires .3 cubic feet in a sealed box. Not that .2 cubic feet is much, but it is 40% less.

I really can't recommend a perfect. I would say its good for the "mainstream" brands, but its really not a very musical subwoofer.

I would have to do some measuring to make sure, but I would think that you would gain at least .1cf just from the slimline design of the other. There are ways around the box size restrictions too. The slimmer it is, the more options you have for mounting. I mean this for slimline products in general, not just talking up this one woofer.

When enough people get their cars done we will have to have a get-together and brainstorm session. Maybe get something standardized? Surely there are a couple really good installers here who would be willing to put the time in. I would, but I won't hvae my car for another year.

Just wondering, as I haven't seen any clear pictures of the middle tunnel; is there any room there behind the shifter for a small fiberglass box, maybe tied into/behind the carbon fiber cover at the rear?

cford,
FWIW, the perfect way to lose your hearing is to start abusing it now. Hearing loss is gradual and painless and starts now, with every thump of your bass.
My own hearing loss started when my trunk was all sub. I too thought I could afford it because I was young. I too was wrong...

In my opinion, you can't make the assumption that a subwoofer is for being loud or going "boom boom", although teenagers these days seem to think that is cool. For me the GTM will be a polished supercar. A super car deserves a super sound system. You can't have a super sound system without a proper low end. I will have a subwoofer for sure. At proper sound levels(ie, not shaking your neighbor's windows) a subwoofer cartainly isn't any more harmful than the engine sitting 6 inches behind your head

My sub is normally pretty quiet. However sometimes it is fun to show off how loud it can be. Immature? Yup. But I get my kicks out of it. Just as immature as burring rubber at times. They're both fun. Its all about moderation and things will be fine.
