What are others using as retention straps on the doors to keep them open and to keep the doors from opening to far and possibly breaking something?

John, I don't think too many people (other than David and Henry) are far enough along to be able to answer the question. Laurence just got his doors a couple of weeks ago but he may have an opinion. I think the door retention strap that you suggest is a great idea. How to do it is the question?

cheers,

Pete

Could be a leather belt and buckle or a nylon strap with a 2 piece snap together deal. Get as fancy or as plain as you like. Or to keep it open you could adopt some aluminum scissor hinges with a detent etc.

John,

Sorry for the late response - I was in Ohio for the LCS and just returned. Your question is very timely. While out in Ohio, there must have been 200 people sitting in my car. With all that door opening's, the pax door now has a chip as does the fender where the door contacts it. I am actively looking for a solution and will keep folks updated. A check strap will work but says "kit car" to me. Not that that is a bad thing, just trying to keep this the "super car" that it is and little details like that can and will make the difference.

Why can’t you weld a stop on the back side of the hinge? You won’t see it.

maybe you guys could look into something that they use for jeep wrangelrs to keep the doors from swinging around and hitting the frame and such I know they use the strap like you said but also you might weant to look at something like this http://www.quadratec.com/products/13029_300.htm. it will give a better look and it will give more control to the door

The door retention on my Chevy SSR is really clean. They use a single flat bar with a couple of detents (bumps) on it for holding the door open in a couple of locations. I will try and take some pictures of it soon and post. The problem might be in adjusting it to for use on the GTM.
