410 has paint

Well, the day came. Seems like it never would but I finally painted the car. I responded to the question of body on or body off....telling Keith I left it on...much unlike the norm but definitely a personal preference that drove my cost of masking tape through the roof.

The car was first shot with polyester filler and sanded to about 320 to make sure all the lines were clean. Then I shot with two medium coats of epoxy and sanded the whole thing up to 800 with the body off. Then dropped the body on after the headliner and roll bars were done....and the inside of the body painted with black epoxy. I wet sanded once again just to make sure I had a fresh surface for the sealer. Then...one immediately after the other, I shot 1 coat of Cromax LE dark grey sealer (3070S) and two coats of 1G0 Cromax Mosaic basecoat and 3 coats of Cromax LE 5100S Clear. The stripes are Viper yellow and were shot after the color...and wholly crap...I'm glad I had everything masked (again) when I shot the yellow. It was everywhere. I had to really control unmasking the car to keep from dropping yellow dust on the color just before going to the clearcoat. It took me 14 hours the first day, 4 hours of sleep and about 12 hours the next day in order to keep up with paint cure and re-coat limits. I sweat my ass off and recovered from a few sweat induced emergencies. The sweat had run down my arms in the suit and started coming out at my cuffs. I taped paper towels around my wrists and had to wear a bandana. This was a tuff color to shoot and the yellow stripes added to the challenge. It all turned out good and stripes are razor clean. It was a physical challenge and I'm in pretty good shape. I did have a ventilation system running utilizing 2 furnace blowers and tubes under the running boards. The car was on the dollies and I used small steps to get the top...starting on one half and pulling to the other. I did a drop coat to even color and metallics. There are two pearls in the paint. The car looks black in low light. I'll post more on the site soon....on the paint page.

Almost forgot...The M on the GTM logo was masked and shot with the yellow. Thats shanes diffuser mod taken a step further with Carbon fiber flush riveted to each side of the vertical strakes using solid flush aircraft rivets countersunk on both sides. The polished aluminum from Shanes mod shines between the carbon fiber. The tubes are full carbon cut for each location. I added plastic washers top and bottom to keep from gouging the surfaces. The badges below the hood are "LS7" billet aluminum. LS is in black. the 7 and rest of the badge is brushed aluminum. Cutouts on the forward front fender are for Subaru BRZ side running lights with forward pointed mini LED's - smoke colored lens. I plan on covering the wing with Carbon Fiber and vacuum bagging that like I did the door panels.

It looks stunning! I'm a big fan of dark grays and this one hits the mark. Nicely done.

Also like the small planes flying around your garage!

Sexy looking all around! I'm loving the yellow fender stripes and rear
heat vents!

Great choice of rims too.
