GTM in Gulf Oil colors

Well I'm back after many years of being away after selling my Cobra and retiring to Thailand. I still have my 300sl Gullwing to build but got a little sidetracked last night after buying a partially built GTM. It has the chassis and aluminum panels painted in the Gulf Oil orange. The original owner wanted to paint the body in the Gulf Oil theme. I know it is a very unique color combo but I grew up in that Era so maybe....any GTM's been painted that way....the build begins, again.

Congrats on the GTM purchase. Did you get #112? Seems like that was a pretty good deal.

Jay-

I think it would look awesome! That color scheme is iconic, and the GTM is a great platform. Marrying them together seems like a great plan.

I would love to see a rendering if you have one. Good luck as you get started, and I hope you take the time to post as you go.

Regards,

Steve

I have considered it, but decided against it just because, to me, there is really only one image that comes to mind and that is of the Ford GT40. I know it has been on anything and everything, but I felt that it's true home was on a GT40.

I also considered alternate colors in the same scheme and may still do this. I like that idea a lot better than a straight copy of someone elses work.

Not completely sure of the f5 number yet, maybe 100 but not sure, had to pull the trigger quickly. Pick it up next week so getting excited! Couldn't pass it up at the price. I know the colors would look good but they are so specific and unique. The frame and panels are already orange so not a lot of options unless starting over, gulf oil, orange, black, white, silver...OK lots of choices. Can't wait, love the building.

Did you buy the car from a guy here in So Cal?
I had a local guy ask my some build Questions and he said his Chassis was orange and was going to install a LS7...

Ya, but it's only an 1/8 inch off!
What if I put a rope around your neck and your feet are only an 1/8 inch off the ground?

Orange and black contrast well together. The company I worked for did a race car in this scheme. Like your setup, the entire frame was powder coated safety cone orange. Once all the bits get onto it it looks much better.

That's orange alright, reminds me of the cobra frame from orange crush painted home Depot bucket orange. I believe it is the same one from Los Angeles area.

I drove down to LA but after looking at it decided not to buy it. Oh well I'll just concentrate my efforts on building the Gullwing
