Weighing the GTM this weekend, any guesses?

I am weighing the GTM this weekend. Do we have any guesses about weight? Car has 19/20 wheel combo with a 345 tire in the rear, full stereo, Z06 brakes, AC, and an on board halon system. It will be on a four corner scales so we can see front and rear weights.

Mine is 2503 with 5/8 tank

Mine has PS which adds a bit, front sway bar, but no AC and no stereo, no side glass nor mechanisms so it may be about the same

With 5 gallons of gas it came in at 2703. I was debating stripping the car down if I thought I could reach 2200 or 2300 but since we are starting at 2700 I will just leave it as it.

Corner weights were LF 533 RF 552 LR 813 and RR 803. As a side note the MR2 came in at 2243.

All these numbers make me a little confused. i thought the finished car was suppost to weigh in at 2350 without ac. I have AC and many extras adding weight to the car. my diffusser weighs give or take 80-90 pounds. Extra metal for the exhaust and brackets. pretty heavy wheels and tires, and many more pounds for the tow hook assembly and i weigh 2600 even. im surprised people weigh more than me haha. On the bright side it makes me feel better

C.W. BARBER,

Have any ides as to why yours is a little heavier than most? I know that halon system has some weight to it. What kind of motor are you running?

Lots of body mods, huge stereo, big C6 z06 brakes, 19/20 wheel combo. Also my car was actually weighed so we have an accurate figure not a guesstimate. Sometimes low numbers are thrown out there and are taken as fact. I have heard some crazy low numbers for the roadster also but the one I weighed was 2600 pounds So that was heavier then expected also.

wow,

I think I'll weigh mine again. it weighed 2180 with no windos and no paint. I had to weigh it for registration... I think I'll do it again now that it's complete just so I know the real deal. Good dissussion.

The heavier they are the nicer they ride and I'm pretty sure you'll still have plenty of performance on tap.

It's gotta be the flux capacitor and the depleted uranium ammo for the six-barreled, 30mm "Driving Manners Improvement Kit." The ammo is dreadfully heavy, but overall I feel it's worth the weight penalty. The bright side is that when needed, the ammo box gets a lot lighter very quickly.

Or it could just be the anchor chain seat belts. They're quite strong, but they do pinch a bit if one isn't careful. And they ARE heavy.

I dunno. Could be a lot of things...

Hmm thats interesting Gary.

So based on what I know of your build, a GTM with an LS3 and mendiola built reasonably to the book but with windows and the other stuff would weigh roughly 2575lbs wet.

Of course a big factor is how much fuel you have on board and what tanks you are using. at 6 lbs per gallon its reasonable to have 100 lbs of fuel load.

Besides the obvious stereo / AC options adding weight, sound dampening and body mods being the other culprets for a few lbs.

The only things I can think of to easily reduce weight are lexan rear window two piece rotors, with light wheel and tire combo and a racing battery.

Do you know how much the current yellow factory five GTM weighs?

Sounds to me like 2500-2700 depending on mods and amount of gas is normal range for a finished street going GTM.

Sheesh, somehow I thought the normal range was 2300-2400. If i am going to get my car under 2500 lbs I need to get it on weight watchers right now .

I'd be interested so know when/how the scales were calibrated. Depending on the type of scale used, weights can easily vary by 50 to 100 lbs if they haven't been calibrated.

Richard and I were talking about this over the weekend. IIRC he said the FFR PDG GTM has been on a diet and has goten down into the ~2500 lbs region. This was with 10 gallons of fuel. It can hold 44 gallons, so that's about 264 lbs of fuel! Thus the reason why the fuel MUST be as close to the center of gravity as possible so as not to disturb the cars performance from full to empty.

Now that the diet is working...time to go to the GYM!!

These are scales used to do the corner weights and cross weights on the race car scales are very accurate. I weighed 5 cars this weekend and they were all close to what I expected.

I check my scales calibration with my weight. I don't vary more than a pound or two, and I check on the bathroom scale, then see if the corner scales are the same. I have never been more than a pound or two off. Yeah, that's 1% so that could be 25 pounds or so, but the real important thing to me is that all the scale pads are reading the same so that they are equal to each other. It won't give you a very accurate overall, but it will do what is needed as far as balancing the car.

My scales have always been within 10 pounds of what the track scales were also, so I am pretty confident that they are very close to correct.

Unless you have a certified calibration done, the scale comparison method combined with a known weight like a dumb bell is probably the best bet.

It took you this long to figure that out?

I call myself "crash" and I drive race cars!!

I take a few things in life really seriously. Honesty, integrity, my family, making money, and building and driving fast cars safely. Myself and others? No, I don't take people too seriously. It's much more fun to bust some balls...and to have mine busted...once in awhile.

That is almost the exact rear weight as mine but I carry 50 more pounds on each front wheel.
