Experience Questions

What kind of experience is needed to build a GTM, my son and I have been looking at these for a while as a project together.

I personally had a big fat ZERO experience in working on cars before i built my GTM. I had never touched a spanner before i built my GTM.

I remember seeing a video about the GTM on youtube where FFR owner Dave Smith was being interviewed and he said that for a mechanic, a guy who's built hotrods and custom cars before, its not a challenge for them. For a guy who has never built a car before? Has no business building the GTM. Well, at least I proved him wrong there

i agree with rev2xs, alot depends on your determination. the most complex part is the body. doors, hatch, wheelwells, etc. that have to be manipulated to fit properly. most of the mechanicals are straightforward. if you can do the bodywork you've got it licked. if not, be prepared to spend some $ to get it right. there's alot of support and info here on this forum if you decide to go for it! good luck, it's always good to see father/son - family builds!

Ability to make good build plan, lock it in, and stick to it.

Good common sense, and to think outside of the box trouble shooting skill

good point Presto51. i started this project with ideas of simple mods. now i'm cutting the body up! i will say i enjoy the building process, some people don't. every time i finish a project i feel good for the accomplishment but bad that the build is done.

LOL Thanks Carbon don't ask me how many projects that I have done in the past that became unhinged, unglued, off the rails, etc. before I learned to "just stick to the plan dummy"

BTW When are you posting more glass pieces for us to drool over, or am I blind and have just missed them

Ron

i'm going to sell the door panels soon. i've put off starting their production to get further along on the rest of the interior. i was hoping to sell the other interior parts as individual pieces but it's evolved to a kit that will include the dash, center console, rear waterfall. it was to much compromise in styling to make them mate up to the other factory interior pcs. i'm also redesigning the exterior of the car to a much updated look, and i'm thinking of selling it also if the market is there. i won't be posting any pics of the exterior stuff until i'm further along.(lame, i know). i'm about at a stopping point on the interior parts to produce the door panels. i wanted to make sure when i do take orders i'm ready and won't have issues in delivering them to customers on time. didn't want a mendeola situation. (no offense to them, i know part of that problem is with their suppliers) i'll keep you guys posted.
