Dropped Off GTM at Shane's

I got my GTM just over six years ago. Since that time I have graduated High school, Graduated college, found myself a career, bought my first house, and got engaged. What I haven't done? Completed my gtm.

Last weekend I packed everything up in Ann Arbor Michigan and made the drive out to Iowa to drop things off with Shane. He was very helpful with unloading the partly completed car into his storage unit and got to see the other three GTMs he currently has in process as well.

Probably needless to say I am very excited. I loved building the car myself (with help from my buddy and my dad) and took a very slow deliberate approach, but I simply have been too tied up with work to make any real progress over the last two years.

Now all I need to do it figure out all of Shane's goodies to put on the car and finally come up with the right color to paint it.

Congrats on taking a big step! How far along did you get with it yourself?

I consider myself a very lucky guy to have great customers like this! Thanks a ton for making that drive down here with your GTM! Can't wait to get started on it.

You are in good hands. Just buy everything and save yourself the "should haves". His louvers are a MUST HAVE for cooling if you have to pick and choose options. The window channel is another MUST HAVE.

Shane's parts

I'm thinking that you need one of everything Shane makes...

Shane, I just sent you $$ for a small trapozoid plate. I just noticed it... I need all the engine comp cooling I can get.

What are the "window channels mentioned here? Keep making cool stuff!! Thanks,

Jon #240

As far as I know he makes the only window channel that keeps out rain at normal driving speeds. I have tested it at 154 or so with Shane Lewis behind the wheel on the back straight and minimal wind noise.

Thanks guys! I'll try to get that louvered belly pan cut and sent this morning, Jon. As for the window channels, I custom make them and fit them to each GTM. There is a ton of fitting, adjusting and fiddling with the windows and channel to make them fit and function correctly, so it's not exactly a "kit" that I could put together and send out for someone else to install. To be honest, I've lost track of how many GTM's I've installed these on now......16 I think?

Shane did my window channels a few months ago along with many other things. You can tell there is a lot of time and effort put into the channels for fit and finish. It's customized specific to each GTM but well worth it. The channels really take away the "kit car" feel as it seals up real nice no leaks in car wash or rain and no air leaking in while driving. You'll be proud to show them off once Shane is done with them and driving with a passenger will no longer be embarrassing.

without shipping the whole car there, could you do it if I shipped the doors?

if not, let me know how much for the parts you use and I will give it a shot, of course it will take me 4 times longer.

and as always, including the chapter of your installation manual on "How to make the doors fit the Shane Way" is good, let me know how much that chapter is!!!

The channel mounts to the body, not the doors. His methods might be "trade secrets" but only he can answer that one.

I basically made it into wiring and got stuck. That was the same point in time that I started working full time as well and just couldn't dedicate enough time to get anywhere on wiring week in and week out.

Now I am looking at all of the fun extras and debating how much to get...
